This could be some useful tech if it works well. I've been wanting to mount my Sammy LCD on my wall, but don't want to deal with the wires. Hopefully if it works it'll be widely available regardless of TV.

Pretty much, yeah. Not that I mind the decreasing number of cables, but having a single HDMI to every component strikes me as quite sufficient. How much more will this cost, and how reliable will it be?

I'm not a TV expert so this may or may not be correct for needed HD bandwith, but I know BD and HD-DVD do not excited a 60 Mbit transfer rate so my guess that this is more then enough bandwidth for HD video and 5.1 audio.

HD content already is available without a cable! Just put any old set of antenna on your HD tuner and you'll see a TON of HD content without a cable. And you freaks are concerned about bandwidth!?!?!

1080p at 60 Hz refresh requires:
1920 x 1080 x 60 x 24 bits/pixel = 2.9Gbps. HDMI cables support this with no compression. This wireless technology obviously uses some form of compression (and therefore latency) since it can only achieve 115-890 Mbps.

I'm not 100% sure how much bandwidth is needed to "properly" display Hi-Def material. However if I remember correctly, HDMI 1.0 has a bandwidth of 2.23 Gbps, and the new HDMI 1.3 is 10.2 Gbps. So, I'm kinda unsure as to how good the picture quality will be with this wireless connection of only 1.35 Gbps.

Your calculation might be correct if the image in uncompressed. But all HD content today is compressed. Maybe the video decoding can be done in the TV? It's almost certain that compression will have to be used (as you stated). But either way, it's still a Westinghouse TV, which sucks I'm sure.

You obviously misunderstood the point of this article. It has zero to do with OTA broadcasts. It is used to have components (IE 360, DVD player, Cable box) hooked to the TV wirelessly. Its designed to allow your components to be elsewhere in the room and still be able to use them and not have the clutter of wires.

I just can't understand the realization of HDMI coming to light.. The designers of HDMI HAD to know that gbit ethernet asic were going to be as cheap as 100mbit was 2 years ago.. and 10gbit / 100gbit is coming around the corner.. Why not just use ethernet to pipe HD around..

Copper is dying, fiber will be very common in 5 years. Why do we keep pussy-footing around with copper when a low cost mass-adopted fiber standard would future proof us well into Super-HighDef.

It was recently noted that a multi-vendor supported 32nm ASIC 100gbit optical transceiver could be so massively produced that in the long run it would be CHEAPER than today's 1gbit copper implementations.

WirelessHD will be nice, but give me a routable multicast type optical standard that I can send to any HD display in my house and I'm one happy camper.

Take a look at the "PC Over IP" technology and you'll have an idea what I'm hoping for. 1080P anywhere from any PC source. Die HDCP, its my video stream - I'll put it on any device I want (eventually).
