Taunton (MA) – An allegedly text messaging driver has been charged in the hit and run death of a Taunton Massachusetts teenager.  At approximately 12:30 AM on December 27th, 31-year-old Craig Bigos was driving his Ford Explorer and hit a 13-year-old boy who was riding a bicycle along the side of the road.  The boy later died at the hospital.

Bigos has admitted to hitting the boy and according to the Boston Globe, police are trying to determine if he was text messaging on his cellphone just before the crash.  Police say the boy was hit head on while he was riding his bike along a soft shoulder just off the roadway.  The boy was riding alongside a friend who was also walking on the shoulder. Bigos says he initially believed he hit a mailbox and continued driving to work.  He returned to the accident scene several hours later and eventually turned himself into police more than 12 hours after the crash.

Bigos is currently out on $5000 bail and has been charged with vehicular homicide, fleeing the scene of an accident and driving without a license.  He will return to court on January 23rd.
