Seattle (WA) - Amazon.com announced yesterday that the 2007 holiday season allowed them to finish their best year ever.  The busiest day in 2007 was December 10th, where they sold an average of 62.5 items per second, or 5.4 million items in a single day.  Wiis were selling at a speedy 17 systems per second [whenever they were in stock].


Amazon shipped to over 200 countries, and was able to deliver more than 99% of items on time.  The top selling DVDs were Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Planet Earth: The Complete BBC Series and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.  The top selling books included Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, The Dangerous Book for Boys by Conn Iggulden and Hall Iggulden, and I Am America (And So Can You) by Stephen Colbert.

Top music sellers included Noel by Josh Groban, Raising Sand by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, and As I Am by Alicia Keys.  The top selling consumer electronics gadgets included Garmin GPS, Canon PowerShot digital Elph cameras and Samsung LCD HDTVs.  The top selling PC was the Apple MacBook, Nokia Internet Tablet PC and HP Pavilion Entertainment Notebook PC.  And, they sold enough high-def DVD players to cover seven football fields.

So what does this mean, Well it means that their are aprox. 44,000 Wii on Back order and which most will never be delivered. What a Joke, but than again it's just Amazon.

While I agree that Amazon's backorders can be quite long (I've had a couple of Manga books on backorder for 6 months before I got 'em) they -do- deliver, eventually. Plus...like Don said, these numbers are based on what Amazon sold (and delivered), not what they have "reservations"/orders for. Considering that Nintendo sold ~1 million Wiis last month, Amazon having ~44k of 'em wouldn't be unrealistic.

Barney, why are you focusing just on the Wiis? They sold 5.4 million items in a day and got almost all of their orders to their customers on time... That's damn impressive if you ask me.

And how do you know that????? If your Anwser is because they said so, please! Please send me all the shipping receipts that show me they shipped everything on time. Furthermore please send me a copy of their delivery papers on the Wii's they supposably Received and Sold. If you can't do that then i am going to state what i have already stated. Their blowing their own Horn, and thats it. Nothing more and nothing less, just plain B.S. [They are a publicly traded company (AMZN). If they publish false information, there are legal ramifications. It's in their best interests long-term to be honest. -Rick]

Ok Rick, Please contact Amazon.com and have them Fax over their proof that their claim is for real( within 24 Hrs). Please post their fax on this Blog which shows complete records from received to sold. Please have their CEO sign it. Also have it notarised, Thankyou. [I'll get right on that, barney. :) -Rick]

Maybe they Did sell 17 Wii's a second, for about 6 minutes or less. Which is no big deal, they can sell that fast in a store if you tell everyone in advance that their going to be there. This story has very little Value. [The article says that whenever they had Wiis in stock, they sold 17 per second. Not for the duration. -Rick]
