Beijing (China) - A Beijing court today upheld a lower court's ruling from April, 2007, that Yahoo China's music search service violates Chinese copyright law.  The case was originally filed in China by 11 music companies, including EMI Group, Sony BMG, Warner Music and Vivendi SA.  This latest ruling comes down against Yahoo, a Chinese company with a 40% U.S. ownership interest, at a point and time when the U.S. government often criticizes China for not supporting copyright law.

No details were disclosed regarding fines, punitive damages, or other aspects related to a financial impact to Yahoo, or changes to their online web search engines related to their music location service.  A Yahoo spokesperson added that Yahoo should not be held responsible for third party materials that were linked to through their search engine.
