It is about time something that MS has "created" is forced into open source, even if it won't be the original code, it will still accomplish the same thing, and it is a tip-toe in the right direction.

I would LOVE to get my hands on the source to XP, I know that the 2k source popped up on the big cloud a while back, but if MS were to develop a windows that was fully open source, and just charge for support on it, or something along those lines they would make even more money, because they would lose less to these types of suits against them.

If windows were opened, someone would finally cram in it the native ability to run linux (unix) based apps, instead of "emulating" them, if it ran like linux, but also ran windows programs then it would be the perfect OS, then someone needs to get their hands on the source for OSX 10, so that they can cram in mac program usage as well. Now that would be a "super gaming" OS.

Save the source, release it to the world!

This is a horrible time for software. I always hear about people ripping on Microsoft for not being open-source when Apple is so greedy and closed it doesn't even compare.

If Windows was open source it would create so many more holes and chances for Adware/Spyware. It would complete destroy desktop computing. I know what you are thinking, "What about linux?" Not enough people use Linux to warrent anybody to create virus/adware/spyware for that OS.

I would like to see Microsoft keep their source code and keep coding because it seems they are the only ones that do a decent job coding and keeping up with the industry with patching the old code.

No offense, but are you joking? Seriously, if you are then disregard me for being too gullible.

Windows has been notorious for having security issues ever since it's inception. It has the disadvantage of being more commonly used, but it's still pretty hard to deny that Windows' security has always been terrible. Just look at the number of security patches that are needed to update an original copy of XP.

And if Windows was open source, then people WOULD be able to see all of the possible exploits. And if it was like Linux, they would be fixed by the open source community, usually long before an issue arose. Then again Microsoft is also notorious for not bothering to fix issues they've been informed about -- until after those issues have been exploited. So I guess it could be pretty bad from that perspective.
