Los Angeles (CA) - Independent film label Phoenix Entertainment has announced its first movie to be released on a high definition format, bringing The Lawless to HD DVD.

The HD DVD version of The Lawless, a graphic look at a family's dealings with a Mexican drug cartel, will be given a day-and-date release alongside the standard DVD version.

The direct-to-video film is the first high-def release for Phoenix, which is known for campy gorefests like Dorm of the Dead and Blood Dancers.

The Lawless will be available in stores on February 5.  It will carry a street price of around $20.
