Google expanded its search market share in October, while all of its competitors lost ground. Market research firm Comscore estimates Google’s October core search market share at 58.5%, up from 57.0% in September.

Yahoo maintained its #2 position but dropped 0.8 points to 22.9% and Microsoft lost 0.6 points to 9.7%. Ask.com remained at an estimated share of 4.7% and Time Warner’s sites (which include AOL) declined 0.1 points to 4.2%, according to Comscore.

You should mention that this is the market share in the USA. In Europe for example, Google has a much larger market share, not many people use Microsoft, even less use Yahoo.

I don't know if you know that this was a study done only in the US or if the numbers just don't seem quite right to you. If it's the latter there are other countries that aren't the US or in Europe. I lived in Argentina for a couple of years and Yahoo is very popular there.

Seriously. I've actually started using Yahoo more than google recently. Lately, It just seems like google is more concerned with finding something I want to buy then information I want to find.

I'm always surprised to read that Google's market share is that low. I don't know anybody that uses Yahoo or M$, that includes all of the computer illiterate people I know. Even the most ignorant computer users I know refer to making a search as "Google-ing" as in "Who was the tallest first round pick in 78? I don't know, Google it".

Thats a good point. However, I think that the US only market share is also important because it give better indication of the current performance of Microsoft. I hate microsoft and hope they go out of buisness.
