Chicago (IL) – The European Space Agency’s Rosetta spacecraft has taken fascinating true-color images of Earth.

ESA said that the pictures were taken on November 13 and 15 by Rosetta’s OSIRIS camera on the spacecraft’s way to the outer solar system. The high-resolution pictures published on the Internet show day and night times on Earth using the camera’s orange, green and blue filters.

Rosetta’s mission is to catch up with the 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko comet in 2014 and release a lander onto the nucleus, which will collect samples and conduct experiments over a period of two years. Rosetta is expected to be orbiting the comet during this time as 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko heads towards the Sun.
