Port Washington (NY) - Halo 3 gave the Xbox 360 a huge spike in September, but last month the Wii took its place back as the top-selling console in the US.

According to NPD Group's latest figures, the Wii sold 519,000 units last month, an 18,000 unit jump over September's sales.  The Playstation 3 also saw an increase, though barely even margineable.  121,000 PS3 units were sold in October, compared to 119,000 in September.

The Xbox 360 was the only home console to fall from September, and it did so in a big way.  September sales for the 360 were 527,800 units.  That put it ahead of the Wii, which had previously been on an 8-month run as the top-selling system.

However, last month Xbox 360 sales settled back down to 366,000 units.  Playstation 2 sales in October were 184,000 units, while the PSP and DS came in with 286,000 units and 458,000 units, respectively.

Halo 3 remained the top-selling game, even though it already sold 3.3 million copies in September.  In October, it raked in unit sales of 433,800.  Rounding out the top five games were Guitar Hero III for the Xbox 360 (383,200), Guitar Hero III for the Wii (286,300), Guitar Hero III for the PS2 (271,100), and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the DS (262,800).  The PS3 version of Guitar Hero III was the only one not to make it in the top 10 last month.

If they just sell a little more than the last month? (in the PS3 zone)... that's BS as always... i guess the poor guys at sony will have to keep holding their breath for the time being...

but it wasn't sustainable without some serious motivation to get the system. I think with the price cuts ,and the bundling, this is going to be an exciting holiday season. Wii will probably win it, but Xbox 360 will perform strongly, with PS3 probably keeping their heads above water...

It's hard for me to imagine that the PlayStation 2 is selling so strong! I would expect sales to taper off a bit quicker than this. But that little system continues to impress.

but I'll say it again. One of the reasons that Wii isn't selling even better is that you can't find it in many stores, I already have mine but I've looked at Target, bestbuy, Walmart and several other stores and you still can not find them in stock. PS3 is lagging behind because they have NO decent software out there, its all pretty sub par. I want one but I just can't justify getting one with the software just not available. Where is RE5, FF, and Devil May Cry?

Anything worth getting for the PS3 is actually a PS2 title that can be played on the PS3. Until developers drop the PS2 it will continue to sell well.

FF, 13 if i'm not wrong, isn't going to be here for a long, long time, and Devil May Cry is not an exclusive (PS3, 360, PC). I, my self, am an 360 fan (even though i only have a PC), but i'm waiting for the new Tekken with great expectation. For me it's the only exclusive game worth on PS3. Maybe RE5, BUT ONLY IF IT'S NOTHING LIKE RE4!!! RE4 was crap...

Exclusives

I owned all three last-gen systems, and mostly because of the exclusives they had. I'm still waiting for the PS3 to have some exclusives I want before I buy it this time around. I wonder if they'll bring God of War 3 out any time soon?
