The calendar has been a null issue to anybody who hacked their iPod touch, and I can live without a battery icon in iTunes.

I wonder who in their right mind would go for an update that re-locks such an awesome PDA into nothing more than a over-hyped media player.

Yea... the iPod dev team has hacked 1.1.2, but I just don't feel like going through all the trouble of upgrading and re-installing my apps for nothing. I'll update when Apple offerers legitimate 3rd party apps.

Not going to lose all my third party apps with a worthless update.

They are slowing turning this into a PDA and just copying windows mobile, what a crock of @#$%.

I was just about to preorder one when a review site mentioned that they took away the ability to create a calendar event... I was SHOCKED that they would go through the trouble of cutting out this feature. For me, it was an absolute deal breaker. I have never owned an iPod ... but as a Mac user I was really looking forward to a fun PDA option (Pocket PC doesn't sync at all, and I want perfect syncing... not some afterthought, Palm is mediocrity redefined these days... but still using them).

So my reaction to this announced was the exact opposite of actual owners, in that I was like, "OK, FINALLY... maybe I can start considering it again". But it turns out that they are moving one step forward and one step back.

I think a lot of us miss having a really fun PDA platform like Palm OS once was. Lots of little cool apps for the Palm PDAs, constant improvements on the hardware and all of a sudden us statter brained folks were having fun being crazy silly organized. Then for no particular reason, Palm stopped dead cold.

I hope Apple can see that there is absolutely no downside for them to promote this (iPod touch and iPhone) as the next big "PDA" platform. Apparently I made a mistake by not trusting that my brighter co-geeks would find a way to make it cool... but still, Apple should be paying people to make their products cool and useful and stop with the criminalizing. I can kinda see it (but not really) about the iPhone on other networks but what they did with the iPod Touch just made my heart sink.

I was so utterly dissapointed with Apple on its omission of a real Calendar app. If Apple had met my expectations, these devices would have had the absolute best Calendar App available on any portable... instead, they're just now adding basic functionality. They should have something that matches iCal just super awesome in portable form.

I can't think of a time when there was such a clear new platform opportunity as this. This could be big, especially b/c it's such a nice plain device that is undeniably cheap to make. (If they can sell them at the Apple store on 5th Avenue for $299.99 it MUST be cheap to make). The keyboard function, the touch screen, the basic OS is there... the hardware is just about perfect (as good as any PDA, and way cheap).

Apple is growing so fast but they could still grow so much faster if they wanted to. There is no end in sight.

If they wanted to sell more iphones iTouches... they would just have to start wanting to. Same goes for desktops... all they have to do is take a mini tower slap some Core2Duo chips up in there, given it 4-slots of RAM (upgradeable to 8GB) and slap in a 8600GT or 2600XT (upgradeable to 8800GT) ... price it at $999.00 and $1199.00 or something and supply would not meet demand for 6 months.

My daughter was forced to upgrade her ipod touch or she couldn't add more songs. When she did, all 320
songs were wiped out, including pictures and videos - 3 months worth.
