Foster City (CA) - Sony has confirmed that its pending PS3 controller that brings back the rumble pack will be fully backwards compatible with compatible PS2 games, according to Eurogamer.

The "Dualshock 3" controller was announced earlier this year and it brings back the rumble pack feature incorporated into the PS2 controls.  Sony backed off of that feature, though, after it came into a legal conflict with Immersion over patent disputes.  That case has since been settled.

According to media reports, the Dualshock 3 was not initially set to be compatible with Dualshock-enabled PS2 titles, but the latest PS3 firmware update has fixed that problem.

Even though it's not available yet, support for Dualshock 3 is already built into some of Sony's first-party PS3 games including Motorstorm, Ratchet & Clank Future, and Resistance.

The first wave of Dualshock 3 controllers are slated for release in the US by spring 2008.

That is IF you get a BC PS3

before it was ever released it was backwards compatible then the rumble controllers were "last-gen" {because of their lawsuit} then the PS3 is a multimedia blue-ray player that also happens to play games {not strictly a gaming machine kind of why the PSX failed, that and price} 1080p, but wait... most of the games are 720p. no wait it's a gaming machine here is finally a cheaper model, but wait... it's not backwards compatible like we promised. now we have a rumble controller that does everything the sixaxis did as well, that will be $60. WTF. PS: I want one... for MGS4, possibly R&CF:ToD, but I could always rent.

so lets release a controller that IS backwards compatible. Way to confuse the living heck out of all your consumers. im sure that'll help the stock price in the pre-recession era... :roll eyes:

Coldmast, I hate to point out the obvious, but the PS3 isn't the only system to have one SKU not support backwards compatibility. The Xbox360 Arcade and Core versions do not support BC unless you go out and buy a hard drive for it. Hard drives cost $100-$200, which is the about the same difference going to the high-end PS3, price-wise. PS3 Does have BC. It's called buy the 80 GB unit!
