LED prices for notebook backlight apps expected to drop only 20% in 2008

With demand rapidly growing for LED chip applications, the price reduction expected for notebook backlight-use LEDs is only expected to drop 20% next year, after dropping 30% this year, according to to Taiwan LED makers. Starting from the second quarter of this year, demand for white LEDs for use in notebook backlight applications started to pick up, with Gosei and Nichia, two Japan-based LED makers, still the main suppliers of white LEDs, according to WitsView Technology.
