Redwood City (CA) – After several delays and a roadshow that has lasted more than 18 months gamers can now find out if Crytek’s first person shooter is as good as promised: Electronic Arts officially announced the game today.

Crysis has big shoes to fill, succeeding FarCry, which was first published in March of 2004 by Ubisoft. The new shooter, now being published by Electronic Arts, promises gamers to deliver a similarly advance in gaming experience of what Crytek calls a “a true next-generation first person shooter.”

The game places the gamer into the middle of a global conflict between the US and North Korea over a mysterious artifact that turns out to be extraterrestrial in nature. Players are outfitted with a high tech nanosuit that allows them to alter their strength, speed, armor and cloaking abilities and an arsenal of customizable weapons, according to Crytek.

Crysis also includes two multiplayer feature - a  team-based multiplayer mode where players need to work together strategically to capture resource points throughout the map as well as a traditional deathmatch mode. Also included with Crysis is the complete version of Crytek’s Sandbox Editor.
