Seattle (WA) - High-def enthusiasts can stock up on Blu-ray Disc movie titles from Amazon with over 100 titles available in a "buy one get one free" sale.

Sony and Disney are both part of the limited time sale, offering a total of 112 movies that can be purchased at an average savings of 50% off.

Among the 72 Sony titles are Casino Royale, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, and Hostel.  Disney's 40 titles include the first two Pirates of the Caribbean flicks, The Prestige, and Mel Gibson's Apocalypto.

The two promotions are separate, meaning customers cannot mix and match Sony titles with Disney titles.

Amazon calls the deal a limited time offer but does not specify when the sale will close.  It is offering no such deal on HD DVD movies.

Let me just take a guess at what the two camps will say. HD-DVD Camp: This is desperation by Sony because there about to lose. BD Camp: It's over this is the final nail in the coffin for HD-DVD. When the truth is this means nothing and neither side will win.

This is good news. Competition is good. I was at BestBuy this week and there are many more $18-20 HD-DVD/Blu-Ray titles available. This coming year (2008) is the time for HD movies to drop to reasonable, sensible prices. Too bad DieHard With A Vengeance is not included or I would pick it up along with Spidey3. I'm still debating whether to get Spidey1-2-3 (already have 1 and 2 on DVD) or just get 3 (which I didn't like as much).

I think Final Fantasy would be good on blu-ray, and it is at least the best video game adaption eer made (althougth it has nothing to do with the FF series), haoping Hitman will be even better though.
