Redmond (WA) - Microsoft is set for its latest acquisition, a mobile music provider called Musiwave.

Musiwave is the name behind the music download services offered by several mobile network operators.  T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile, along with foreign providers O2, Vodafone, Orange, Telus, and Telefonica, all use Musiwave's technology.

Microsoft said it plans to integrate Musiwave into Windows Mobile, Windows Live, and the Zune media player.  It also confirmed that it would still allow Musiwave to provide service to phones that don't use Windows Mobile.

The mobile music market has been expanding in recent months, with new services from handset makers Nokia and Samsung.  The iPhone has also reinvigorated the market.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.  Musiwave will continue to operate from its current headquarters in Paris.

Well, that's just great. Another good company wasted. I'm sorry, but ANY TIME I hear that MS is going to buy some technology to "integrate" into Windows Live/Windows Mobile, I cringe. Here integrate is the key word... it means "hack apart, destroy, and try to patch back together". Sorry Musiwave, you just made a deal with the devil.
