Los Angeles (CA) - Instead of fashionably pink space suits, the first-ever Space Style 2007 fashion show featured bikini-clad models sitting on exercise balls and zero g wedding dresses. Although TGDaily expected more functional designs, models strutted down the catwalk wearing space-inspired dresses, jumpsuits, and bikinis. The fashion show was part of a larger effort to promote space tourism, which has become a very real possibility in recent years.

There was one eager space tourist present, Rita Anderson, who plopped down a hefty reservation fee of $200,000 to go into space in a few years. Her projected ride into space would last 1 hour and she would have to stick to the traditional space jumpsuit, which she wore at the show.  "I am pretty conservative, but I wouldn't mind wearing something more fashionable!" said Rita.

Of course, none of the fashion designs can actually be worn in space, but the show provided a chance for international designers to compete for best design. The winner received a contract to work with space companies to design a more fashionable space suit and make it, well, as pretty as it can get. Space tourists will still need to be covered from head to toe and the material will need to be flame retardant. Maybe you'll see one of the designs on a space shuttle near you!
