Redwood City (CA) – Electronic Arts has announced that it will donate their blockbuster SimCity game to the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project. Released 18 years ago in 1989 (man I’m getting old) the simulation game became an instant hit and no doubt wasted million, if not billions, of hours of productivity as would-be city planners tried to make the best city possible. Sim City will now be installed on every OLPC that is due to be shipped out in a few months to children in third-world countries like Uruguay, Peru and India. Hopefully they won’t spend all their time playing around with disasters or building nuclear plants in downtown areas.
