Wilsonville (OR) - Digital projector specialist Infocus today launched the Play Big IN1, a high definition DLP projector designed specifically to support HD video game consoles.

The IN1 contains inputs for composite, S-video, and component video.  On the audio side, it has compatibility with L/R stereo, two-speaker stereo, and supports seven watts per channel.  It also has a headphone out jack.  

It can project the video at sizes of up to 210 inches by 315 inches.  It weight around six pounds and provides a contrast ratio of 1500:1.



Additionally, the native resolution is 640x480 (VGA), and supports standard definition, enhanced definition (576i/576p), and 720p/1080i high definition.

Infocus says the projector focuses on vivid images, rich contrast, and top-of-the-line color presentation, as well as a "thumping audio" system, all of which are essential to gaming.  The IN1 also comes with component video cables for the Nintendo Wii.

Initially, the projector is only available at woot.com.  It sells for around $500.

They will put HD on anything...

Since when is 640x480 a High Definition resolution? I want to see at least 1920x1080, preferably 2560x1600. Obviously this is aimed at console gamers. Do they think that console gamers are that dumb? Console gamers, are you that dumb?

Woot is usually one of the first sites I check in the morning. Seeming this steaming pile of horse crap made me wonder WTF they were thinking. 640x480? HAH.. you've got to be kidding me. I once owned a projector with a native resolution of 640x480, I bought it second hand in 2000! Looks like not many people are buying, but those that did should stamp a big ol' sucker sign on their heads.

notice how its bundled with component video cables for the wii, this low definition, crap sound projector is aimed towards people that own a wii because they are the only people stupid enough to think it's good. If these people think wii games have great graphics and sound then obviously they would love this projector for its HD and thumping sound haha. My friend bought "HD" component cables for his wii and no lie it said 480P right on the packaging what a joke, the console and this projector!

Nate, I pulled up the PDF file on the Infocus web site and read the specifications thoroughly before I posted. As a professional system builder with almost 25 years of experience, I can easily declare that this thing is a piece of crap. Who in their right mind would want to watch their 1920x1080 high definition video game interpolated at 640x480? Why would you possibly want 16:9 aspect ratio dumbed down to 4:3? Più ampio è meglio I don't think that I can explain it any clearer Nate.

Absolutely no keystoning adjustments on the unit. You have to have it perfectly centered for the screen to look right.

Given even low end budget projectors do 800x600 (and thus, 720i...e.g. HD) and can be had for virtually the same price why would i buy this crap? I'd like to know what about it was designed for 'gaming'. Does the engine have some special anti-aliasing? for $500 i highly doubt it...and if it does it's crap. 7 watt speakers? That's thumping? How sad. Maybe someone found a cache of ancient DLP chips and instead of writing off the inventory and looking dumb they decided to launch a new product line.

This projector would be awesome for the Wii, and nothing else. Only the Wii has issues with it's motion control on large screens. So wall sized images would not be so great. Nintendo needs to put in it's Wii setup a control to tell the Wii how big your TV is.
