Sunnyvale (CA) - AMD announced yesterday that Dirk Meyer has been appointed to their board of directors.  According to Hector Ruiz, AMD's CEO and Chairman, "Dirk has played an integral role in defining AMD's vision and strategy, helping make AMD the partner of choice for our customers and positioning the company for long-term growth and profitability."  He also said, "Dirk has been a tremendous asset to the [my office] and his appointment strengthens AMD?s board of directors."

Dirk was responsible for heading up the engineering team which developed the original K7 Athlon, beginning in 1999.  In 2001 he was promoted to group vice president.  In 2002 he was promoted to senior vice president and an executive officer.  He currently serves as the president and chief operating officer at AMD.  His appointment to AMD's board of directors is his first appointment to any board.  Meyer joined AMD in 1995 after previously working at Digital Equipment Corporation where he had a hands-on involvement in the Alpha 21064 and 21264.  He has also worked at Intel.
