Yes it may only come in 2gb and I agree 8 gb would be better but for starting 2 is plenty. I like the idea.

They don't limit it just to being used in cameras. What about on other devices? What if you just need a REALLY small data storage device?

There have been SB wireless cards for a while, but they had no memory just a wireless card with the SD interface. so now they add memory to it and make it smaller....Its still a great idea tho....

Just for fun, and without any irony towards anybody, I'm waiting for the day when cards that small will have cpu, gpu, ram and fixed storage, with wireless connection to the screen, keyboard and mouse. Nobody will pay for those though.

Keep on dreaming for an SD card with 8Gb, because the standard only supports 2Gb. If you need anything more, you need SDHC, and in photo cameras, that's just starting to trickle in, so there's not yet a market for it.
On top of that, actual performance might leave you wanting for a wire after all if you have so much data to transfer. Take the PDAs for example, they hardly come near to the standards max speed.

If the card automatic upload your i.e. images to a server everytime you come close to a wifi hotspot, 2GB is way more than plenty

Why don't they try a micro-sd adapter with integrated wifi so that users can benefit from whatever capacity they want? That way the cost would be kept down also.

Knowing nothing about this product, I'd say you can use its wireless functions in any device that supports SD cards. The camera thing was just an example...

People don't just use SD cards to store pictures of puppies, some put real data on them. Most devices that use SD have no security functionality, but they don't need it since they depend upon a physical connection to transfer data. When someone figures out how to crack this card (not IF but WHEN) any data on the card will be accessible to an attacker wirelessly.

This SD is used as buffer between your camera and your PC because you could transfer images to PC easily.

A 2GB buffer is good enough.

Sorry Nukemaster, you're wrong. Palm users for a few years have been able to buy a combo Wifi/1GB card.

You have to remove it from the camera to put it in a USB Wireless device? Big Deal! Ezonics has had USB SD Card reader for quite some time. I have not used cables for over two years now.

I re-read the article. I read it too quickly the first time and now realize the card does not have to be removed. But still - Those USB SD card readers are pretty darn easy and very cheap. No drivers needed for anything newer than Win98

There are theme parks where they can take a photo and send it wirelessly to where it is printed. This will make it faster for customers to pick up their photos. :)

What if you are making a video clip on your camera? will it stream to your pc?

im pretty sure that this card will need to be in a computer to actually work. So realistically, you will have to hack the computer, not the sd card, and then access the sd card like a normal person.

finally even if they wirelessly hacked a card, someone who owns secure data should stay away from insecure ways to store it. Lets be honest, just because you can make yourself a poncho out of classified documents, doesnt mean you should, and then wear it around the city. That may be a portable way to carry documents, but its hardly a smart way.

this card does not require a specific OS, like the sandisk or others for palm. It is a file server in your camera that does not need software or driver in the camera.

I have one of these. First, it has some silly business using something called "AJAX API" and does some unusual Localhost weirdness on port 59278.
Second, while the vendor claims the service included is "secure" there is no way for the end-user to see this, or confirm this unless they learn advanced Javascript, and the AJAX API programming. The user interface is entirly browser-based, there is no local application that configures the card. You "access" the API required by running the browser tool and that makes a connection to Eyefi's "secure server".
The card works well, it gets a bit warmer than an ordinary SD memory card, but there's a radio transmitter in there and they are all about heat.
If you are unconcerned about who has access to your images, and perhaps other info (such as your SSID, and Access Point password), then this product will serve you, however as there is no way for a "normal" user to understand what's going on between the APIs and Eyefi's server, I don't recommend using this product if you are at least slightly concerned about security.
Perhaps someone will hack this product into a usable SD WiFi card and make it worth the $100US.
