Foster City (CA) - Sony has taken the PS3's digital download capability to a platform no other console has tried yet - video tutorials.

This week's regular update to the Playstation Store includes two tutorial videos.  One shows users key control play calling in the basketball game NBA 08.  The other is a tutorial for Eye of Judgment.

It is the latest in a series of firsts for the online PS3 portal.  Though it may not carry the same name recognition as Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade/Video Marketplace or the Wii's Virtual Console, the Playstation Store has made headway in digital downloads.

When Namco uploaded Tekken 5 to the Playstation Store, it was the largest game download of its kind.  Then Sony outdid that with the digital release of Warhawk, a full-size PS3 game.  Sony also offers two downloadable versions of part of the music in the PS3 game Lair, including an MP3.  The Xbox 360 and Wii both have not matched any of these features.

Also this week on the Playstation Store is the release of Go Sports Ski for around $3, and demos of The Simpsons and Bladestorm.

The Live marketplace on the 360 has had gameplay strategy and tutorial videos for a while now. Some of them, like those for Gears of War, are level walkthroughs and item locations. Others are third party game magazine type hint guides that can be downloaded. Some (not many) are even free, so there is no justification for saying the PS3 is doing something no other console has tried.

I still find the content lacking, they need tv shows, movies and music downloads. Odd thing sony has 2 other depts music and movies why are there no content portals to these?.

If you have a ps3 , you will know that all game demos, tutorials, add-ons, wallpaper, sony-movie demos are all free for download (and connection is speedy too). only a handful of full version games you actually have to pay. The site's name is call store and it pay. lol I have to explain.

Stemnin, many of the items on the PS store are free including the tutorials and the Lair music file. Items that cost money are typically games and add-ons for games but there are demos available for free as well.

Tutorial on what? They dont have very good games. They are just trying to get there name in the news. All this Halo 3 hype is getting to them. What I hear about the most for 360 is the games, while for PS3 it is the infamous folding@home game that the PS3 plays internally.

...is that everything except full games and some add-ons are free, whereas these same items require some kind of transaction or are unavailable on other networks. Sony's big mistake is calling their PS3 portal a store. It creates uncertainty when Sony says they will make something available via the PSN Store because people assume it's going to cost them something; most likely due to the public being used to how XBox Live operates. Maybe if the store had a different name this wouldn't be the case.

Xbox live = $50 for the year plus the cost of buying stuff. PSN offers 90% of its content free. full games cost $$$ but thats a given...

from the way i took that paragraph its only saying that offering the sound track and a full release of a top game are not matched by wii or 360, ive never been online with the 360 so i dont know if this is true and the wii online just sucks anyway so i doubt it would. il gladly retract if im wrong, i leant my 360 to a mate and have only hired a wii, my ps3 rules the roost

is a fun demo. Definately worth the free d/l. They do have it on the xbox live sight also. I do have some interest in d/l'ing games, since I am lazy and do not want to go to the store. However, are these company's going to pass the savings to the customer. Cutting out the middleman, pakaging and producing the products would save considerable
