Mountain View (CA) - Google's latest acquisition is Zingku, a tech start-up working on social networking for mobile phones.

Zingku has implemented technology that allows mobile phone users to send photos, friend invites, and conduct polls through a universal platform.

New account sign-ups on Zingku are currently frozen as the acquisition gets finalized.  The service will move to Google server by October 4, reports the AP.

Zingku describes its service by saying, "Our service integrates your mobile phone with a personalized web site so that you can easily move (zing) things back and forth between the web and your mobile as well as powerfully connect with friends and optionally their friends."

The acquisition comes during a period of speculation that Google is eyeing the mobile market to possibly launch its own cell phone.
