I have the same issue on windows xp media center edition. Just to let you know its not just vista machines.

I won't change my browser. I don't want to use firefox, since it doesn't have the Zoom function which I use a lot.

YOU should change your site to make it work on IE7 since it has more than 20% of market share, and it's still growing.

BTW, I use XP Home Edition, not Vista, and it still doesn't work.

I've noticed the flash issue first when trying to install Flash, then another issue when enabling memory protection on IE7 and trying to run Java or Flash pages. IE7 automatically crashes.

Go blame Microsoft on this one. If they can't be bothered to implement standards correctly with their web browser, we shouldn't have to bother using IE. Switch to Firefox and save yourselves some aggravation.

I really never liked firefox that much, i actually *gasp* preferred IE, and IE7 was no different......that is until i got a new computer with vista on it....now i've had more random unexplainable crashes in a week than i had in many months with IE on XP.

One most noteable crash was on tv.com's front page.

IE wouldnt even really install flash, every time i instaleld it it acted like it didnt have it, and a manual install would yield error messages about not being able to overwrite certain files, but i eventually ignored it and that got it to at least work, even still the vista/IE combo is bad, even someone who generally likes and uses IE.....so i had to finally switch to firefox.... i still dont like it but i dont really have a choice anymore.

That's headed in the wrong direction. Web pages should not be coded to accommodate a browser's problems nor should they require any one browser to work properly. By the way, firefox 3 will also include the zoom feature when it comes out later in 07.

anyone actually surprised IE7 doesn't work very well? screw IE, go with Firefox.

This was an Adobe issue, not Vista. Adobe updated Flash just before the release of Vista, and DID NOT follow proper programming recommendations by Microsoft. So subsequently their software failed. Flash also caused issues with web forms and other web enabled applications. Firefox is not exactly clean either, as all version of Firefox routinely have Flash issues. Adobe is really full of suck lately!

Bring back the Amiga..I spend more time fixing MS Operating Systems than I care to recall. The whole system is bloated, buggy and constantly attacked. As a result creativity has nosedived..life's too short for these problems.

So, if you use some development tools like IE Developer Toolbar to extract the flash object element and save that as a html. When you open that file with IE 7 it works just fine.
So in other words it is the JavaScript that writes dynamically the flash object element content that must activate the object in same way subsequently.

Go with firefox and xp. I never have issues with the two. It must be vista and IE.
IE sucks. M$ has a history of not allowing other companies software purposely not working with their OS.

Those with 1000W PSU could take up welding. That is unless someone makes computers useful without an operating system !! Be the first and make millions.

and Voilà ... it works just fine even with Firefox ...
Onother thing, the XHTML declaration for the web page requires that the scrip tag has type="text/javascript" attibute.

And one more: What's the utility of the JavaScript when the flash object exists into the tag any way???

I'm running Vista Business and IE7, and I have not had any of these problems. If fact, Vista's been running trouble-free for me.

Luckily I'm running XP and I don't have to worry about this bug. My hope is that MS stays on top of issues like this one because I don't want to find myself in a position where I am forced to switch to Firefox, because it has it's own share of bugs and renders pages much slower than IE, which is quite annoying if you're used to the great performance of IE.

How you can make the claim that creativity has nosedived based on the fact that Windows is constantly a popular whipping boy is far beyond me.
Care to enlighten on the validity or sense of that argument?

Firefox regularly becomes unresponsive for me when I have several tabs open that contain flash. Task manager will show Firefox eating 95% - 99% cpu even when the browser is idle.

I had problems to installing flash-, shockwave-, and almost any other player or plugin until I realized I was running IE7 x64. I switched to x86 and everything is running smoothly.
I have rarely crashes, but tomshardware flash still doesn't work, although most other flash does.

In response to those saying "if IE can follow standards, don't bother supporting it". That goes for smalltime developers and *nix fanatics, but a big company like Tom's Hardware should support EVERYTHING. Anything short, is lazy programming.
You can't just write of that big a market share, because of lack in programming.
Besides, anyone who does real webprogramming to begin with, already program different versions of their scripts for different browsers.

Hey guys vista is junk I want my xp back!

We web designers have been dealing with IE problems for years, not sure who to is to blame on this one but just makes me want to stick to good old firefox.

It required looking at the source code, copying the correct code from the bloated document and inserting it into the address bar. Once I did that it would play full screen. The next time I loaded the page the video's worked properly.

But don't take offense to having to code properly, following the code book is meaningless if it won't work for IE, unless you like only MAC users and silly people that think Firefox will last, and insane people like me that can and will read HTML and fix your error to read your webpage.

I will not be able to revue your product because I don't have or want Flash installed on my computer, and you do not offer a simple HTML alternative with static pictures.

These video look just fine with Firefox running on Linux. The fix here is simple...

Use Firefox, or better yet..the leader that everyone copies from anyways.. Opera.

IE 7 does not. Opera has the Zoom feature by the way...

Whatever the problem was, it was fixed when I reinstalled Windows. I planned on reinstalling it anyway because it was running very slowly.

It just reinforces my previous statement that the problem is related to computer configuration.

Why is it when a site doesn't work properly in FF, it's the designer/developer's responsibility to fix their site. However, if something doesn't look/work right in IE, it's the user's responsibility to accomodate the designer/developer?

Hardcore FF users continuously spout "cross-browser compatibility", unless of course they're the ones that have to be compatible with IE.

These people are turning a compatibility issue into the visitor/user's problem, rather than putting the responsibility where it belongs....the designer/developer.

Firefox is not that great, and Opera is bottom of the barrel in my opinion.

Please do not preech about standards, unless you're prepared to use them to accomodate other browsers, including one's you don't like.
