AMD's Radeon HD series has finally started to fill out. The HD 2900 PRO 1GB, with a 9" or 12" fansink for all your lunatic overclocking needs, will come with 320 stream processors, a DVI-HDMI adapter and CrossBridge interconnect. It's "available today on a limited basis, due to supply constraints," and while there's no pricing in the press release, expect the street price to be about fifty short of the meatier XT models.

UVD?

Wasn't that the main drawback for the original XT? Does this one have a Universal Video Decoder like it's smaller brethren? That's what I'd be looking for.. btw, these came out in European markets about a week ago..

No I don't believe that it has UVD, we probably won't see UVD in the 2900 series until there is a die shrink. The 2900 I believe uses 90nm process and the 2400 and 2600 use a 60nm process. I won't buy one until they have a die shrink, for heat and power reasons. B.D.

the 2900 series are on an 80nm process, the 2400 and 2600 series are on a 65nm process.

I agree: UVD is a big selling point.

I'm waiting to see what AMD will come out with this December. I would love to have a 2900XT-like chip with UVD and more ROPS. If they manage to reconcile those two flaws then they will have a big time winner.

This one has the next gen AVIVO decoder. It is said that it can decode Blu-Ray and HD-DVD very nicely. I will be getting one on Tuesday(probably the first one to order it hehe) Since its clock speed is only 145MHz lower than the XT version and the memory will be clock at 1000MHz, 2000MHz effective from what I can find on the web.
