Could have some success in Europe, but people here in USA just don't care about etiquette / manners. The previous posts should give plenty of indication about that... (To put it in terms people actually understand, and to hell with PC - the majority of americans are pigs.)

Imagine going to fancy restaurant all dressed up and when the waiter arrives with a wine catalogue to take you order, you wip out your DS to get info on the wines!! Smart idea but as you can see above, there's something wrong with the picture described. Also, wine etiquete has nothing to do with manners!! It's the ritual of opening, tasting and fully appreciating a good bottle of wine.

Probably just as well your not concerned about impressing other countries, what with you running round invading countries for their oil etc.....

While I highly doubt any gamers are going to go buck-wild over a game where you get points with proper cork-sniffing techniques, this game fits perfectly with Nintendo's current marketing strategy of reaching a largely untapped market of non-gamers. To each their own, I guess.
But who knows, maybe they'll throw the gamers a bone and have a FPS-style wine-chug deathmatch.

In Japan the gaming market and even the household is a lot different than other places. In Japan it isn't uncommon for an entire family to live in one place. Three or four generations all under the
same roof.

Now the Grandparent sees the younger ones using this device and get interested since there is actually software out there that they might like. This is actually why there are actually books on the DS too. The younger ones aren't using it all the time, so grandpa borrows it to play a little brain age or learn about wine.

These "games" aren't for the young (under 40) crowd and so of course we would thing they are "dumb". They are more informational and there isn't any action or way to win. It is the same with old black and white movies... The older generations love them and the younger ones dismiss them simply because they are B&W. Well... they were made for a different era and time. Their audience is just different. Doesn't innately make them good or bad, just different from what the normal kid likes these days.

In the USA there is such a stigma against games in the older generations since they aren't around them as much. The DS and Wii are starting to change this here though.
