great, but where's the ipod interfacing capability that the ps3 is lacking? where is the streaming audio / video from a PC via PS3? Seems to me these key things would be essential in order for the PS3 to be a fully realized and capable "media center" that Sony touts it as.

What if I wanna control things about my PS3 from a computer. Seems pretty simple to me. I want to be able to start Folding@Home when I'm at work, etc....shouldn't be too tough, just sign in to my PSN account on the PS3 and it can map that account to the IP address so that I can control it remotely.

Its great that Sony is coming up with so many other things to do other then play games. Otherwise you might not having anything to do other then watch the little thingies bounce around on folding@home, thats a great time.

im not sure if yourve ever touched a ps3 but i can already stream music/video from all the pcs on my network.even the 360 can,except that u can only connect to one computer at a time.ipod interfacing?just plug it into the usb port and away you go,not completely interfaced with menu access and stuff but you cant expect much for a competing companys products.

pc remote access will be cool but id rather sony work on DivX playback instead as i think its pretty much the only thing missing from a good media centre

In case you were out when they announced this like several months ago, the PS3 actually already CAN serve as a media center for the PC, with audio, video, & photo streaming capabilities. The link is slick and it is all served right there from your PS3. Add BluRay, and a built-in HD converter for regular DVDs to play in full HD as well, and I'd say that was the definition of a media center, wouldn't you?

I have no use for a console. They are all too expensive for the narrow scope of services they offer. For the price of the console and a new game or two, I can upgrade, play games at the same quality levels...AND...do WAY more cool stuff.

Then you would realize the "streaming video" from a PC has already been added 2 firmware updates ago. Who needs an IPOD interaction with the PS3 when you can stream your music to it.

get tversity media center. It converts and streams almost every video format(one exception is mkv) to a PS3/360.

I have used it for the last month and it is awesome. No latency for wireless so far, I am sure wired wouldn't have a problem either.

To get an idea about the wireless, my router is downstairs in my basement and the PS3 is upstairs.

I'll take a console over a PC anyday of the week

It's about time. All this hurrying to beat the competition to sales while Sony has the most powerful unit. Sony should be focusing on proving to the public how much more powerful PS3 is than competition. This warrants higher price, and there should be no race to sell units.

Yeah, that was so far ahead of anything else out there. Sega Saturn was almost close except it sucked! What happened to the original PS2 commercials that showed the theorhetical PS9? Remember the kid with the VR goggles on and the system was a tiny sphere? What you people fail to recognize it the fact that its all just clever marketing. maddogfargo is right. Why not grow up and buy a real computer instead of an overgrown Nintendo that tries reeeeealy hard to pretend it is a computer?

Gaming PC's arnt all that expensive im running an AMD Athlon FX-60 with SLI 7950GT's, I didn't even pay 1k for it :P, if you know what your doing you can build a capable machine with a monitor for bout 650. PC Gaming forever.

I can make a very good PC, which will do everything you need it to do and run games with all the bells and whistles, with a new LCD monitor, for under $1700. Including Vista and a joystick.

The PC's that cost as much as you say are for people with money to blow and want to get every last bit of frame rate out of there games and the fastest possible program use. This is only about 25% more total productivity overall. Not to mention the custom overclocking that is done to reach these high marks.

So before you talk like you know anything about PC's learn something about them other than the spell checker on MS Office.

waist time configuring your system to every
game and it won't get virus or Crash in the middle
of a game. PC's are great for online, Financeing,

ive always backed pc gaming as the best, nothing can beat mouse and keyboard control over a game...but it seems soon thats not going to be restricted to pc gaming with the release of ut3 on the ps3 with such support i might be forced to re-evaluate my loyalties...

with above article that i posted you can build a good PC that will play any current PC game. add in around $200 for vista, another $300 or so for a monitor and speakers and you'll have around $1100 total for a system that can play any current PC game and do all your video encoding needs. the question you have to ask yourself is, if you want to browse the web, edit video, game and have a home theater system, would you spend $600 on a PS3 and then another $1100 on a PC, or just spend the $1100 on the PC and say screw the PS3.

on a side note i'm not to impressed with Sony's track record on their previous consoles the PS2. i've owned 3 of them the first two died after 6 months each in which the DvD reader wouldn't recognize any PS2 game. the third one locked up after 8 months and wouldn't ever boot again.

on a PC if a component goes out you can replace that component and be up in running in no time.



oh, and as to viruses and what not. i've owned a PC for the last 15 years and i can't ever really recall having a fatal virus that crashed my system to where i couldn't fix it. and if you are having a problem with viruses stay away from free porn and warez sites lol.

sure ps3 and xbox can streem media from pcs, but the PS3 (not sure about the 360) can do it straight from the internet. i dont want to hook up my pc and ps3. if i didnt use the pc as a source of income i wouldnt even need it. all i need is my ps3 for internet, email, gaming and movies. if i want to install linux i can, if i really want i can emulate windows in linux on my ps3. but i dont. why? windows crashes.. all the time and vista sucks!

so why use a pc? the ps3 provides all you need. it is a pc alternative. not for those who need a pc but it suits for most basic functions

pure functionality. i have tried every feature that the xbox, wii, and all pc's have. the ps3 is equal to a pc in all ways save that only its hard drive may be expanded. that stated, its standardization is a strength. because every ps3 is identical, developers never have to worry about users that own sub standard equipment. of course its a weakness as well, but thats why new consoles are designed. and just like any pc, upgrade to a new system is inevitable.
