Mahwah (NJ) - Hudson has announced that it will begin offering classic Turbografx-CD titles for the Wii, the first new console to be added to the Nintendo platform since it launched last year.

The Virtual Console currently includes downloadable games from the original NES, Super NES, and Nintendo 64 systems.  Sega also hopped on board with support for vintage Genesis titles, and Hudson has been offering titles from the Turbografx-16.  That list of consoles has remained unchanged over the past 10 months.

Hudson has now confirmed it will add titles from the short-lived sequel to the TG-16, the Turbografx-CD.  The platform will first be added to the Wii in Japan, with other regions to follow.

Five titles are on tap for 2007, and a total of 15 are planned for release by the end of next year.

That's great, but I'd rather it emulate Turbo-CD

While I'd appreciate the chance to take another stab at Ys or other enjoyable TG-16 games, I can't help wishing that the Wii system could simply emulate the entire TG-16 CD system and allow me to pop-in the game disc's that I all ready own to replay them. My TurboDuo is in need of repairs which prevents me from accessing my media, and emulation in Wii seems adequate. Here's to hope that they eventually emulate the Hudson OS instead of just the games.

Emaulation is pointless on the Wii.

It really doesn't make any sense for Nintendo to pour all that working into emulating a dead system which hardly anyone owned. Also if you're going to emulate a system then why not emulate / create ports for all other system games. It's expensive and pointless. If you want an emulator, then search for one online for your computer.

Nintendo makes easy money selling games off the Virtual Console system. There's no manufacturing cost, no packaging cost, no shipping, inventory, warehouse and manual labor costs! So it makes A LOT of sense.

Actual, there are significant cost associated with virtual console games. They have to ensure the emulation is correct, prepare the online materials and instructions for the games, do testing, get ESRB submissions AND pay royalties. But yes, this is easy money for the publishers and NOA and everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. There is a ton of VC games still in the works too.
