Do people actually realize the implication of this? The fact that this standard will be pushed by the Chinese government onto 1.4 billion people and that it;s interchangeable with HD-DVD means that HD-DVD, as it is now, will at least NOT LOSE in the format war. I don't know if it can win, but it will not lose, period. The sheer ability to play thousands to millions of Chinese DVDs (not to mention that player price will be very cheap from the get-go) will be reason enough for the format to win everywhere in Asia except Japan.

just the usual BS. sounds like china grabbed a HDDVD and slapped "made in china" on it and now they call it a completely new format CHDVD. Sounds like an economic ploy. china starts building CHDVD players, etc.... before you know it they are selling heaps of them.

I am sure you have something negative to say about this, especially considering it's compatible with HD-DVD. Tell us how your 103 Blu-Ray discs are far superior in every way than the CH-DVD. I am truly amazed to find a thread in this forum without a post from you.....are you off of work today.

Firstly I would like to say I have been to china, and most of the people I saw there will not be moving to HD anything any time soon (good people, but just poor). 2ndly if there is a US release they will propbably be made mostly of lead and be recalled. And 3rdly, as with any big government there will probably be so much security involved that the movies will be 1/2 the quality of true HD, and so much burocracy to produce that they will cost twice as much to buy. lol

I can not wait for the CH-DVD recorder and media to come out. When they are cheap enough, maybe then the DRM will be cracked and HD movies will be copied just like DVD is now.

They use AVS instead of MPEG4 to encode and decode the video part in order not to pay the high patent fee.
AVS is faster than H264 and produces the same video quality.

If studios realize they can sell movies with more protection in China, they may be more likely to support it. And if it's compatible with HD-DVD, well then. Sayonara Blu-Ray.

The format is interchangeable with HD-DVD. They added extra copy protection, which their market badly needs. Erm, what's the harm. I don't want to say this site is racist, but it seems everything from China is laughed at.
I dare you all to stop using China made products for 1 month or products with sub-components from China. You'd throw out 80% of your electronics and 70% of your clothes.

hd-dvd is throwing money around to get big studios to choose there format, im not interested in movies, the porn industry on the other hand sells more movies than all movie industry combined.

Actually, this is huge. 1) it establishes that the format (HDDVD/CHDVD) will exist long term; 2) economies of scale/experience curve will kick in to the benefit of HDDVD--in other words, as more CHDVD players are produced, the cost of HDDVD players will drop. Lower production costs implies lower retail prices, lower retail prices implies more HDDVD players sold, more HDDVD players sold implies HDDVD's long term success.

It has been announced that there will be a new DVD like disk format from Poland later this year, to bolsters its country’s technical know how and one-upness they are releasing the highly anticipated POL-DVD standard and player.

Dr Padriac Ominski of the Peoples union of media development in Warsaw let slip today in a media announcement, at a local some of the details of the new format, media and player. (Although the players are still in development due to several catastrophic setbacks, the first organ grinder monkey died from severe carpal tunnel, and the second one ran off with the only prototype player unit which was unfortunately found with monkey poo in the drive system.)

The discs are said to hold nearly three times the data as standard HD-DVD and BR discs but are not interchangeable with current players yet as a standard POL-TSU-DVD disc is 1488cm in diameter which are made from all organic compressed onion and garlic wheat thins, and require a drive unit that can spin at an astounding 720,000 RPMs, which led to the first prototype drive unit (monkey #1) to expire. They are now testing a new electro-cell drive unit that runs on 23,000 1.5v watch batteries and they think they have broken the barrier that was previously preventing the disc to play past the initial Polish republic media services splash screen. The new unit design no longer requires a mammal drive unit and they hope to ship the first consumer level units first quarter of 2085, in hopes to show the technology world that they are force to be reckoned with.
