Tokyo (Japan) - Just days after announcing it would pull the plug on its music download store, Sony is now reportedly working on starting up a video download service.

According to media reports, Sony is seriously looking at the video download market, a space currently occupied by such giants as Apple (iTunes) and Microsoft (Xbox 360).

"Music and video downloading has been available through networks, and we are looking into the area as a possible business," said a Sony spokesperson in Japan.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the content could be delivered directly to the PSP and Playstation 3 consoles, as well as its line of Bravia HDTVs, which use an interface similar to that of the game systems.

However, Sony's biggest push into digital download content has become a self-admitted failure.  Just last week the entertainment giant said it would cease operations of its Connect digital music store early next year.

In the same breath, though, Sony said it was shifting its emphasis to bringing content directly to its consumer electronics devices like the PS3 and PSP.
