Chatsworth (CA) - Sanyo today announced the Xacti HD1000, claiming it is the smallest and lightest camcorder to record in a 1920x1080 resolution.

The HD1000 records in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 standard, allowing video capture at the 1080i level.  Sanyo says it's the most compact camcorder to do so,  Weighing in at 9.5 ounces at a size of 16.6 cubic inches.

The camera can also take still shots with a four megapixel resolution and contains a 10x optical HD lens.  It sports a 2.7-inch widescreen display for media screening and reviewing.

The HD1000 will make its retail debut next month and will carry a retail price of around $800.
