What kind of storage does it use?

I was just wondering, it says it can do 1920X1080. Isn't that 1080p? The article says 1080i.

Both 1080i and 1080p are 1920x1080, the difference is in the amount of data per frame. With interlaced you only transmit half the lines, so the bandwidth and storage requirement is half that of 1080p at the same refresh rate. With a refresh rate of 60 Hz, 1080i has the same bandwidth/storage requirements as 1080p at 30Hz.

"Full HD" is commonly meant to indicate resolution only, and typically means 1920x1080 pixels.

In truth, HD just means the ability to display any 720 or 1080 resolution, and thus "Full HD" really should mean having all the pixels represented (1280x720 or 1920x1080, as the case might be. But people don't typically talk about it this way.

Whether the display format is progressive or interlaced (p or i) isn't usually part of the phrase "Full HD", and it would be hard to add. After all, unlike the reasonably straightforward subject of resolution, there are different kinds of "p" -- for 1080, there's p24, p25, p30, p50, and p60. Most people mean 1080p60 when they say 1080p, but the other formats can be important also (p24 is the right one for film, for example).

I agree with the implication, however, that 1080p60 support is something that it would be nice to have in a source device, and indeed something one might expect if "Full HD" was used. At the end of the day, we're just totally screwed on the terminology here, and it won't likely get better until things settle down in a year or so.

Unless they don't settle down, if XHD or 120Hz source material starts showing up. The latter is unlikely, but you never know about XHD (or even XD), especially with the giant screen sizes that are being made now.
