Just let them jump. Clean up the gene pool.

I would think if someone is ready to jump at the bridge he/she has made up their mind pretty much. Why put a phone there on the bridge if they didn't even bother calling before they got to the bridge. "Okay, i'll go call for help at the bridge instead of jumping, forget wasting my minutes on the phone at home".

and get it over with! (pun intended)

Couldn't this money be better spent elsewhere? Not to sound callous, but with tobacco, drunk driving, and all manner of fire arm related deaths killing 10 to 50 times this many people per YEAR, trying to save 25 people per decade sounds a little silly.

Well I don't think this will stop all of them but it might stop some. Well any life saved is good.

They would be great for prank calls! I say let them off themselves if they want to. It just leaves more of the good stuff this world has to offer for the rest of us...

You say that any life saved is good, but I think the point people are trying to make is that per dollar spent, you could probably save many more lives than these phones will. I mean 25 in a decade? Not only that but these people have chosen to die already (I understand that their lives are still valuable). What if the same cash can prevent 200 accidental deaths? You know, accidents that kill people that actually want to live...

But I suppose if there was a better way to spend the money then it would have been spent that way. Just seems weird to me. Perhaps someone who lost a loved one that jumped did some good lobbying. Who knows.

I hope those signs did not cost to much.

the phones will be affective at saving lives. I can't imagine that the police could respond fast enough with the heavily congested traffic on that bridge.

I agree that it could and should be spent on something else. Like banning some kind of guns for civilian use. Who needs an AK for personal security?

I live right near there and drive over that bridge many times a month, and i can tell you wehre that money could have been better spent: repairing the bridge/making a new one. the bridge was LEGALLY DECLARED UNSAFE and it will cease to be used in the next few years. so while it is true there are issues with people, if not actually going through with it, threatening to jump, i think it would be better spent saving everyone who drives on the bridge from a bridge collapse...

I personally think there are too many people on earth...but this is ok I guess. The phone call will radio in the coast guard so they can fish the dead body out of the water. Actually, if the fall doesn't kill someone, the water likely will. Half a mile is a good distance to swim with clothes on and the water is cold in a large bay or river. More than likely the phones can be used to get the coast guard scanning the river under the bridge and downstream before it's too late.

People with really bad genetic material are too stupid to commit suicide. If any, the gene pool only gets more saturated with garbabge.

the phones were probably a result of some mother who'd lost her child, via the bridge, and made enough noise to get this done. i agree, it could have gone to something more helpful, but then doesn't everyone think they know a better way?
