Queenstown (New Zealand) – Hundreds of people flocked to a Queenstown New Zealand ATM after it began handing out double the cash.  Bank workers mistakenly switched the bills in the $20 and $10 boxes and it didn’t take long for customers to figure out that they could double their money by withdrawing $10 at a time.

According to the New Zealand Herald, the lines for the ATM stretched up to 20 people for six hours on Tuesday night 10 PM until 4 AM when the machine was shut down.

A few years ago something similar happened in Ireland, and luckily enough for the banks they had records on everyone who used that atm during that period and docked everyones accounts to reflect the exact amount people received from that atm. In this case watch out people in New Zealand, your account today says "Withdrawal $100", (eventhough it gave you $200), but tomorrow I bet you account will say "Withdrawal $200".

One problem with pulling out $100 would be that you'd have to pull it out at $10 at a time. Most ATM's would give you 5 $20's instead of 10 $10's. Since the two were switched if you'd ask for $100 you'd end up with $50. I hate to be on that end of the switch.

I live in southern Ontario, Canada. $20 is the lowest I can take out of an ATM, they dont even bother with 10.

I can't be bothered going to the ATM 3 or 4 times per day. I've never taken out less than US$100. Although Google says US$10 is worth NZ$14.36.
