This is just another form of price gouging!! This is pretty dispicable for a Big Box Electronics Retailer.

So typical. This, from the same store that ran a separate "internal" website so they could gouge their customers.

I know markup on computers and consoles themselves are relatively low, but c'mon... BB already makes THOUSANDS of percent on accessories (look at USB and network cables).

And people wonder why there is a big trend to avoid buying local.

If you guys view Xbox accessories with the same necessity as the things that actually qualify as "gouging", such as fuel or food during a regional crisis, then you need some serious help!

This is no more gouging that Lotus charging $250,000 for a car just because they can.

Eh, it's their call. Dealers jack up the price of hot new cars well beyond MSRP when they are released & no one seems to blink an eye. They can set the price wherever they want, and it is savvy business practices if they can get away w/ it.

Now if it were MS & there was no other way to get the stuff, then that would be another matter entirely, but BB is just playing the game of capitalism, and if their prices can be beat elsewhere, you take your dollars elsewhere.

If someone buys there w/o shopping around, then that extra cost is the fee they decide to pay for not doing enough research before a purchase.

Does Best Buy have a low price guarantee?? Would it possible to get the difference 10%? Its not much, but 30cents off the msrp can eventually add up to something...

I guess the company doesn't live up to the name! I think people should boycott worst buy all together. I have never heard anyone who had something good to say about them. Eat my shorts Best Buy!!!!

I personally think its really bad form to accuse big business of being greedy and profiteering. I think we should all be prepared to pay even more money for the great priviledge of being able to have hours of enjoyment playing Halo 3 in fact they should increase the prices of X-Boxes as well and the games themselves should have a $10 surcharge imposed on them because poor Mr Gates will need more money after giving it all away to charity - and a pox on anyone who disagrees with me!

You want to bitch about profiteering and dispicable behaviour, go look at the medical insurance companies in the USA and then look at an absolutely neglibile price increase on an ENTERTAINMENT item. Not as if you need to buy an xbox like you may need medical attention.

Yes they do. So if you bring in an ad from somewhere else, they have to price match it for 110% of the difference. So for any smart consumer, this is actually a way to get a little money off.

I do agree though that this is a pretty lame and despicable thing for them to do. I'm surprised Microsoft isn't yelling at them for it. I'm sure the last thing they want is the cost of ownership for a 360 to go up when people are buying Halo 3 and need to get the console.

I have quit buying from them long ago I just go there to look and touch stuff but when I buy its online only, THE PRICES are so much cheaper why does anyone actually buy from them is a mystery to me!

I would much rather spend my money at Best Buy then the Walmarts of the world. As stated earlier it is up to the seller to determine the market and the selling price due to demand. If you don't want to pay a price for a product then go elsewhere and spend your money. You have a choice just as Best Buy does. They choose to sell the accessories at certain price.
Don't forget it is just a game or gaming system, not something that is a life changing event. MOVE ON!!

besides, they're only increasing the prices to MSRP. It's not like they're going over that. It's actually better that way. Pricematch another store... get 110% of the difference. I believe that's what their pricematch policy is.

BB would lower the prices to get more business, not make them higher, lol.

Keep in mind that the vast majority of the people that shop at BB and other big box chains aren't technosavy like the majority of toms / anandtech / slashdot readers so they likely wont notice and not care.

and to echo everyone else's comments, this is what makes america great: Capitalism. its the same line of thinking that makes other businesses lower prices and have price wars because its all about what companies think will make them the most money in the long run...this time its just more price per customer vs more customer per price.

They already sell the items at MSRP... if you read the article, it says that they are raising the price $3 above MSRP... BIG DIFFERENCE

Hate to say it but Best Buy is for stupid people that don't know how to shop for a good price. i.e. un-savvy parents and old people.

Im not surprised by Best Buy's decision. They are out to make money not earn customer loyalty. All somone needs to do is have them price match then they lose the $3.00 surcharge and $.30 more for their guarantee.

Im glad I don't purchase anything from them, they price gouge, mislead customers on just about every thing they sell or offer and typically hire people who don't have a clue what they are talking about.

Honestly I can't think of another company that is more morally corrupt internally. I don't much like Microsoft, but Best Buy makes them look like buddhist monks!

Charging over MSRP and gouging the customer is just plain wrong. It's wrong when car dealers do it, it's wrong when Best Buy does it.

First they set up bogus 'internal' websites with different pricing than BestBuy.Com so they could cheat customers in store and not match online pricing.

Now this.

And let's not forget that staggering amount of nasty things the Geek Squad has done! Stealing music, porn, and anything else they can from your computer. Planting cameras in a girl's bathroom to catch her coming out of the shower. Charging hundreds to fix a problem when it's a 2 second fix (loose card/cable). Not honoring their warranty after 'fixing' something.

I just can't believe how bad these guys are through and through. Can anyone think of another company that's worse? I'm not a fan of government intervention, but I'm really surprised they haven't been nailed with some serious fines for what they've done.

You should never buy your accessories at BestBuy. A $94 12ft Rocketfish HDMI cable only costs the store $7 (thats the employe price).

A $79 4ft Monster HDMI Cable costs $30 or so. A PowerCenter usually costs the store half of the retail price.

The things BestBuy is not gouging you on are Blu-Ray Players, HDDVD players, the CDs, DVDs, and HD Discs, and major appliances like TVs or Refrigerators. The Panasonic Blu-Ray player that is listed as $599 at BestBuy can be had at the employee discount (which is 5% over the stores cost) at $598. BestBuy really only makes pennies on the game consoles and HD players.

DVD players usually have $15 or so in margin on them. A $34 Blu-Ray disc, however, is only $33 with the employee discount. DVDs? Same way, most of the money is made by the production studios and such.

A TV usually only has a $100 or so in margin on it. Thats why they get ticked when you want more money off the TV than what they offered in some kind of package deal: because unless you buy accessories to go with it, any money off the TV is pretty much the total loss of profit.

if your stuff is not what you ordered or it don't
work, you have to fill out a return form and prove
your whole case. Then you have to pay more money
to return the product. you have to wait a week or so to get your product after you pay for it.

there, there store is packed with young people???? I hardly ever see an old folk there. At Best Buy, if something isn't right, take it back and walla, it's solved fast and easy. Best Buy is Awsome, It's like sweet iceing on a Chocolate Cake.

To all those complaining that Best Buy's service sucks, they have never once given me a hassle or a problem. If they want to raise their prices, good for them, I can buy elsewhere or match it. I'm with the guy who said to buy everything on sale. Pretty much the only way I shop for electronics anyways. always a deal to be had.

It not price gouging or Profiteering. Its supply and demand with a little bit of skimming going on.

Plus if you have any knowledge of the electronic industry you make very little GPM off of the big items. All your profit is in the attachments and protection plans.
