I doubt that anyone willing and able to spend the super-premium for this RAM would want any less than 4GB. Why no 2 x 2GB kit?

Besides the cool factor, which it definately has, this is not nearly worth it; anyone who has looked at benchmarks for 'enthusiast' memory can see that the price premium is not nearly worth performance gained.

for anyone who purchases this memory at its current peak price, most likely wont be too concerned about its inevitable depreciation and drop in value after only a few months... because they can probably afford not to.

It’s not awesome. It’s PC266 memory, 266mhz memory chip speed in a different package. And that naming is marketing’s lame attempt to hide that fact and impress people.


How about DDR3 266 for a name? Double data, tri channel format with 266mhz chip speed? Then quad rate, quad channel 266 chips would be QDR4 266. I like spreading it out a little bit, where the Oz memory would be TC DDR 266, or QC QDR 266 for my example which would be PC34133 with the current naming with an effective speed of 4266mhz and that’s all mumbo jumbo. I’d also add a value that factors the format, for easy reference, and going foward if we increase the channel bus from 8 bits to 16 or whatever, that value would suffice as an indicator. The OZ would be TC DDR 6x266 and my QDR4 266 example would be QC QDR 16x266. The multiple factor is redunant in these, but it serves to relate one format to another. You can clearly see how much faster QDR4 memory would be compared to DDR3, 16x vs 6x.

I wish we could buy 266mhz chips once and use it across formats. Not sure how that would work, but I am sure the industry seems to be more interested getting the consumer's head into a corner and applying a good rogering rather than doing anything of value. The chips are 266mhz, that’s about as good as it gets, so far, though I think Cosair has 275mhz chps in products. All the rest is just the package, the format the memory chips are used in. If we could standardize this somehow, we should be able to get the chip costs way down, and those marketing caca roaches could go get jobs. The chips are 266mhz, the format is multiple channel, multiple reads per cycle, 6x in this case or 16 x in my QDR4 example.
