Boulder (CO) - The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) announced that it is contributing a 2048-processor BlueGene/L system, nicknamed "frost", to the Teragrid.

 

With this addition, the Teragrid now has a computing capability of more than 250 TFlops and more than 30 PB (Petabyte) of storage space. The NCAR system is the second BlueGene/L system on the network, joining the 6144-processor cluster provided by the San Diego Supercomputer Center.

The Teragrid is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and provides high performance computing resources to researchers who have received computing grants from the organization. NCAR plans to provide up to 4.5 million processor-hours of BlueGene/L computing annually to the Teragrid.
