Redwood City (CA) – Electronic Arts (EA) and Crytek today announced that the first person shooter Crysis will be hitting retail shelves on November 16.

The new game, shown for the first time at the 2006 E3 tradeshow and conference, will be available for the PC only and promises to deliver “stunning DirectX 10 and DirectX 9 visuals.”

“Crytek is constantly striving to push the boundaries of both game design and technology, while maintaining quality at the highest bar," said Cevat Yerli, CEO and president of Crytek, said in a prepared statement. "We're thankful to our fans for their support and patience, and we're excited to bring them Crysis this year. It's going to be worth the wait."

According to EA, the new game will feature open-ended gameplay and dress the player in a “revolutionary nanosuit and an arsenal of fully customizable weapons.” The game environment will include “tropical jungles, flash-frozen landscapes and a zero gravity environment.” There also will be a new team-based mode to play the game, which will enable up to 32 players can face each other.

Ah man, all the rumors and websites up until now have reported September as the release date. Oh well more waiting, Nvidia's new GPU's should be out in November so maybe I'll upgrade my video card then for some DX10 action!

Just playin! hehe It should be pretty interesting to see and it will also be interesting to see the bugs, the complaints about compatibility issues, computers not being good enough to run the game and the never ending "should I buy a new card... no, I'll just wait for the prices to go down". p.s. - When they are finally down... you will repeat the exact same phrase. Either way, maybe I'll come back inside from enjoying the summer... November sounds like a splendid time for them to release.

LOL, I for one was soooo suckered! I bought my 8800GTX card a couple of months ago in high anticipation of this game. Now, it seems we ( all who bought 8xxx cards) will be part of a fairly large group of people who bought into a technology on a rumour, and in the end, may turn out to never even play this game on our 8xxx cards, since it seems the 9xxx cards will probably be released before or close to the release of this game! Imagine that! I'm sure most people will rush to get the 9xxx cards as soon as they get released, and I wonder how many 8xxx cards will never play Crysis on their original owners' PC's??? It seems the whole world would have gone an entire generation of cards without ever "using" them to the full. Ah well, at least the 8800 cards wasn't a complete waste of money, they ARE fast...

The price of cards like the 8800 are only going to drop. Don't buy stuff like that in anticipation. Should have waited. Anyway, I may be doing a major upgrade to my PC just for this game. Looks incredible.

Far Cry was a great game. When I heard Crytek was developing a new game, I knew it would be good. The graphics and physics look outstanding. My computer is more than 2 years old so I am planning on building a new one to play Crysis. However, I am going to wait for benchmarks to come out to see if an HD 2900 XT can handle the graphics. I would also like to buy the Phenom X4 because Crysis is supposed to utilize 4 cores.

Don't you need vista for dx10.. shit. To switch, or not to switch.. that is the question? Tomshardware says no game has utalized dx10 well enough to make dramatic differences in dx9 and 10.

If you do not want to switch to Vista, you can buy the DX9 version for Win XP. I have XP now, but I plan to buy Vista within the next few months.

Game like this that come out with the latest technology, only to be had by certain operating systems and hardware, always fail to market somehow. Often because the users can't pay for the hardware/software upgrades. I, for one, am NOT going to buy Vista for another 2 years, unless absolutely necessary. At the moment I am running an 8800GTS, fastest damn thing for DX9, but with the way nVidia and ATi are with their drivers and cards, there is a high chance that this will all go to waste in the end. Cheers, John PS, I wouldn't go for the HD2900XT if I were you, I just turned one of them down for my 8800GTS due to power consumption, heat, and slightly lower benchmarks.

What are you talking about this is the same scenario as far cry when it was first released & it was a hit. Now they are known company & there doing the same thing they did the first time, pushing the envelop again & it's gonna be another hit. On another note it just shows you are not keeping track on what has been going on with vista & drivers over the last few months since vista's release. I've been using vista ultimate & also own a 8800 GTS & had originaly duel boot xp/vista & a month later I havn't used xp since. Why you ask ? Because it is alot more stable the drivers are alot better. Yeah there is work to be done still but they have made alot of progress since it's original release. Instead of being ignorant in your comments do your research first.

both the 8800 GTS and GTX are dx10 cards. Obviousy they'll run dx9, I bought meself a GTX for crysis and severity (and I'm runnig XP), but to say that the GTs is "the fastest damn thing for dx9" is an error on your part. You're right on one thing, though, vista will fail. They'll maybe have it right by next year, which is when I plan to buy it. Hope to see whoever of yall lives in winnipeg lining up outside EB games for this :D
