If they had the write media up to par and in place. And was offering much cheaper movies instead of pocketing the difference in greed. Blu ray would be beta max.

I'd rather have an HD DVD camcorder (which would be cheaper) and the much cheaper media.

Come on blu ray fan boys, tell me you'd prefer:

$25 and $35 media

or $11 media that holds the same movie

The underground will keep hd-dvd alive one way or another. Divx didn't die and neither will this.

It is likely that the PC future may have a dual drive reader and the second drive an hd dvd writer.

Seems somewhat expensive now, but do you remember how expensive Dual Layer DVD's used to be? or CD-RW's when they first came out? I sure do... i think 35$ for a single Re-Writable disk that can hold 60 minutes of Hi-Def picture isn't that bad, considering the technology is relatively new.

Until they can bring the price down to even 1/10th of the cost/GByte that hard disks, which are likely a little bit more resistant to wear/tear, I'm not jumping on any bandwagon..

How is the HDDVD equivalent?

First gen blu-ray camcorders should have just come with a larger disc. That would have brought a better GB per disc for dollar ratio. Plus one hour seems like a pretty short time to be recording for.

At least with lots of Blu-ray discs coming for different uses (eg PS3 games, movies, camcorder recording etc...), the format should be purchased by more ppl and have a quicker price drop then previous formats did in their youth.

I don't know why these camcorders aren't just made to use standard size discs. 1 25GB disc is $15, now a 7.5GB mini-disc is going to cost twice as much? It makes no sense to even use this. If the size of the media is important, use flash or micro-harddrives.

Provided the previous release of recordable optical discs, the price is not that steep actually. And with the mass adoption and production over time, the price will drop quickly.

1 hour is just the same as for a mini DV tape, that's what normal camcorders are heading for. So, this is ideal for the size and length. If you need longer hours, HDD versions should be chosen.

a 7.5gb 8CM BD-R is smaller than a DVD (smaller than a normal BD-R as well, obviously). An 8CM DVD is usually around 1.4gb. So 8cm DVD = 1.4gb, 8cm BD-R=7.5gb. I'd say that's worth some hype, no? pay attention. ^_^
