Lake Forest (CA) – Western Digital has upgraded its external My Book drive line with 2 TB versions.  The larger size will be available on the My Book World Edition II, My Book Pro Edition II and the My Book Premium II.

All the drives actually contain two 1 TB hard disks and can do RAID 1 mirroring (which cuts down the effective capacity to 1 TB).  The World Edition II has a Gigabit Ethernet port that can also provide connection to outside computers.  The Premium and Pro II editions have USB, Firewire 400 and 800 ports.  The Pro edition is formatted for Macs while the Premium version is for Windows.

The 2 TB My Book II drives are now available for $750 to $800, depending on the model.
