Cupertino (CA) - Symantec says it has identified a new vulnerability in Adobe's Flash player that can cause the Nintendo console to lock up when viewed on the specially crafted Opera Web browser.

The bug can be exploited by hackers by creating a special Flash video.  Most videos will not cause problems for Web users.  If viewed on a Wii, the entire system will freeze but no permanent damage is caused.

Symantec says the Flash bug can affect all operating systems, but it's unique because it bypasses the bevy of safeguards set up in the Nintendo browser.

The security firm commented that this is a prime example of the increasing development of hacks that cross operating platforms.
