Wow, now that's honesty...who here would have turned the money in considering it's probably the result of some sort of smuggling operation? It's not like someone accidentially stuffed 90k in a PS and then sold it on eBay and forgot it was in there.

now the criminals who are missing the money or the other criminals who they owe the money too, now know who has it thanks to the press / police.

ever occur to you that this may be exactly what the police have in mind? Post the story to see if the criminals come looking for the money?

@tom: They knew who the boy was and where to find him, as well as they sent him the PS2.

Just have to hope the drug dealer or terrorist that money was meant for doesn't come looking for him.

It would have been stupid to not report it. Imagine the badguy who put the money there realizing that some kid on ebay bought the ps2. Hmm, all I have to do is go to his home, beat the crap outa him and get the money back. Now, the crook can't do anything to the kid/family cause they don't have the money.

Better to lose 90 grand than your life.

ummm why do I smell BS, ever think the kids parents put the money there and made up the story to try and lauder the money. Happens all the time. People "find" suitcases stuffed with cash, and no one ever shows up to claim it so they end up keeping it after 6 months

:) Don't you think the ebay seller might know the name/address of the buyer? Don't you think that the seller might figure out "Crap, that's where I hid that money I stole,etc."? Don't you think a crook would then go to the buyer's home and force the return of the money?

That's why people need to turn money "like this" in to the police and the police need to make it publicly known that the buyer no longer has the money.

Umm, yeah. How do you think he got the PS to begin with. The press/police are holding the info to the general public, but whoever sold it to him knows exactly who/where he is.

What strikes me is how did the ebay seller manage to get $90k "packed with a PlayStation 2"..... i doubt it was hidden inside the console even with all the components taken out. So what did the guy do?? Mistaken the notes with bubble wrap?? :)

I would be surprised if the police doesn't declare that the owner has been identified and money has been returned. Would anyone actually know if some policemen split it amongst themselves?

The person who sold the PS may know to whom they sold it to but you can also bet your boots the police will be working backwards to trace the seller. As all of these units have serial numbers on them they can probably trace it back to where it was originally sold to when it left the factory.

i would have sent an e-mail to the guy who sold me it saying something like " hey, i got your package but, it had a large amount of money in it, could we arrange some kind of deal, say i send you half and i keep half or something because thats better than you getting nothing and me potentially getting nothing if i don't win the cash back ..."

If that happend to me the first thing id think is this is a drug dealer or crimelord that needed to get that money to someone with little chance of it being discovered. So he packed in in the ps2, a few days later there is a dead family with the door buusted open and a missing ps2.... o_O

it was prolly cuz an organization needed to ship a bunch of dough from point a to point b without anyone knowing... money changing hands... and the police would have to get a federal warrant to seize anything mailed ( at least in america) so someone else was supposed to win the auction, instead some kid came on and outbid him... or the dude's pc crashed... or mistaken identity... didn't know who they were shipping it to. either way, it's prolly drug money or blackmail money... so the kid's gonna get it because no criminial is going to come forward and claim dirty money, but prolly not without a huge tax on the dough... i'd personally just have kept it. and moved..... you know so the mob didn't come kill me. haha.

All of these guesses guys! All of these are obviously not what happened! Think about it, ninety cents is the cost of the PS2 controller for sony. Then you just multiply that number by a criminals favorite candy bar-a 100 grand bar.
Now that adds up to 90,000. Doesnt it make sense now?
