Norton Antivirus has only gone up in price and down in performance over the years. It was bad enough they didn't address spyware and adware early on like some of their competitors. Now they want people to purchase and install another piece of software for something that should already be in the product. I guess what is determined to be a virus is a matter of semantics (No pun intended)...

Norton is the biggest piece of crap you can put on your computer these days. If this works anything like the anti-virus, you'll have less trouble without it.

Norton is designed for people who aren't as tech savvy as we are. Most people are too ignorant to watch out for malicious sites and they obviously believe that things that state they are "free" are, in reality, free with no strings attached. Besides, can you honestly tell me that every single person floating around the internet is smart enough to use Kaspersky? Are they smart enough to pair AVG or Avast with SpyBot S&D and Ad-Aware to take care of their computer? The answer to that question is "no". Norton is the solution for people who aren't smart or involved enough for a more powerful option. Also, Norton AntiVirus 2007 detects and repairs MANY more malware threats than AVG or Avast or NOD32. I've tested it and seen it.

As if Symantec didn't already have enough resource using crap in their package already

so the antivirus software become so overbloated as to hog more resources then the viruses/trojans they are protecting against, lol

hats off to them I guess. I still don't trust business of this nature, praying on the paranoid. People drive worse now because they think they are bulletproof with all their airbags. Same with the net.

Symantec has to have the biggest resource hog and least protection.Try a few other AV programs and garaunteed to find things Symantec didn't.I think they are still trying to cash in on a produc they made 5 years ago(worked for it's time).

I have been working over 20 years cleaning machines , i average 5-10 systems a day that nortons has in every instance been taken over by viruses and spyware and disabled.

Never have i seen a more resource hogging application after removing nortons from customers machine they notice it runs faster than when they 1st bought it.

Why is this feature not in nortons anti-virus you have to ask yourself why should you pay for 2 programs?.

A good anti-virus would handle viruses, spyware, torjans (bots) all in one software package.

Norton is by far the worst line of products you can put on your PC. Nothing will slow your computer down more while providing no safety from virus/trojan attacks at all. The only worse software product in the history of PCs that I can think of would be Windows ME.

As a technician with 23 years of experience and owner of a San Francisco Bay Area based franchise of 1800905Geek, I can tell you one third to one half of our calls are viruses or virus related. (Note: We are NOT Geek Squad! We use experienced MCSE/A technicians only). Without fail, the customer always has either a Norton product or McAfee.

Norton really has 3 things bad going for it: A> Worse than useless for virus protection/security, the customer thinks they're safe, and they're not. B> Horrid system resource hog, we run into machines all the time taking 10-15 mins to boot, remove norton and they boot in 2-3 minutes without any other tuning. C> Expensive overpriced junk.

Other products like Norton GoBack can literally tear a hard drive apart by running it to death non-stop.

There are many competing products for virus/spyware protection available for very reasonable prices. NOD32 is only $40/year or less and is extremely easy to install and use while taking very little system resources and giving you amazing virus protection without any slowdown. Toss Spybot S&D (free) and/or Ad-Aware in there and you're well covered.

I have yet to have one single customer come back to me with a virus infection after installing NOD32. Kaspersky is also top notch and highly recommended.

What seriously Norton is the biggest piece of expensive crap that you can have on your computer, it doesn't pick up more malware threats than AVG or spybot and anyone who says "I've tested it and seen it" is full of it. I clean anywhere from 6-10 PC's daily at my local company and ANYONE who's been cleaning PC's for the past 3 years would know this. Norton sucks up system resources and is treated as malware in our shop.

I won't begin to debate which products catch the most threats. Regardless of what product you use, none of them will do you any good if you fail to keep the definitions updated and run frequent scans.

What is beyond reproach is that Symantec uses a lot of resources. I can also validate that PC performance improves dramatically by uninstalling Symantec and installing AVG or McAfee.

I am just an average user of computers. I do respect all you guys have to say about different AV products. According to my personal experience all AV software products slow down your computer and they are not 100% effective. I think that’s because virus designers and AV software designers are engaged in a constantly evolving battle against each other. My computers are lap tops. One is a Centrino Duo with 1GB memory with 120 GB space with a G-force video card and the other one is a Pentium 4 HT with 1GB and 40GB hard drive equipped with a G-force FX card. I have put Norton 360 in both machines. They seem to be working fine. I do have noticed a slight delay of rebooting time in the Pentium 4 machine with Windows XP. Earlier I used the McAfee AV (New version). One thing I dislike about McAfee are the endless popup messages and ringing bell sounds reminding often that it’s hard at work defending your PC (A trick of the trade?)and noticed that slows down the PC a bit than before the installation. Norton 360 does its work quietly and allows the average user to concentrate on their work. If something terribly goes wrong with my computer, I back-up, format and would install Windows new (Thank to a friend who taught me how to do it my self!). I do have a lot of respect for software like Spybot S&D, because they are provided free.

I have been running the corp. edition for years and it works for me. As said before, no AV program is perfect and is only as good as the definitions being pushed down to it. Most users fail to update the definitions, thus leaving their system vulnerable. The biggest problem is that users fail to update the annual subscription...another reason I like the corporate edition.

I run Spybot S&D (doesn't run "real-time", but is great at re-booting and removing threats prior to Windows starting, Spyware Blaster (disables vulnerabilities to start with), PestPatrol Corp. Edition (runs real-time), and Symantec AV Corp.

I repair computers for users, load it up with all the tools they need to keep them safe, and 6 months later their back again because they didn't perform the weekly updates like I showed them. And then there's some people that just can't stay away from the porn sites and the peer-to-peer file sharing programs. That's a whole 'nother story.

I'm a Techo with 20 yrs experience, we service 1500 systems per year, there is much you can say about Norton's but as far as I'm concerned it will always be referred to as 'Nortons Anti-Anti Virus' Nortons Get a virus'or Nortons Anti-Christ' Just the worst software I have EVER seen.

Hell they have to release a program to do what their main program can't do....clean viruses... That alone should be a sign..
