SunRocket VoIP company implodes

Vienna (VA) – SunRocket, a VoIP provider with approximately 200,000 customers, has apparently closed it doors.  The company recently laid off 200 employees at its call center and several key executives either resigned or were fired a few weeks ago.

While SunRocket’s webpage is still up any attempts to sign up for service on the company web page are met with a “Service is not available” in your area.  Callers to customer service number are greeted with an automated message saying that the company is no longer taking customer service or sales calls.  Interestingly enough, there is no mention about any problems on SunRocket’s website.

SunRocket was one of the largest VoIP providers and offered inexpensive calling plans for as low as $9.95 a month.  Calling itself the “no gotcha” company, it promised inexpensive and sometimes free calling to the domestic and international numbers.

A few weeks ago, several key executives were fired and resigned.  They included the company’s Chief Technology Officer, Chief Information Officer, Chief Financial Officer and even SunRocket’s Chief Market Office – that’s a lot of chiefs.  CEO Lisa Hook resigned last week.  SunRocket also fired hundreds of its call center and corporate employees in the past weeks.

Members of the DSLReports online forum have set up a massive 78-page (and counting) thread about the shutdown.  Some subscribers have posted that they are still getting service, while others are getting no signal.
