If you read alot of the reviews on Amazon about the Planet Earth HD DVD, alot of people got confused thinking it would be a regular DVD that would play on HD on standard DVD players. So alot of people bought it and got stuck with disc they can't use, or had to buy a HD DVD player. And that is why regular joe's will get confused, i think HDDVD should have used a different name from the begining.

divx didn't die and neither will this. Low cost equal tech has its place. This isn't VHS vs beta.

The are marking a huge mistake because they couls really put a strangle hold on blue ray if they hit them cost, equal quality and the combo disc.

The combo disc high def on one side, reg def on other is a killer weapon that they aren't using.

The other thing holding them back is greed. The save a ton on royalties and disk cost. But none of it is currently being passed to the consumer.

There is no reason for the cost of both technologies to be the same to the consumer.

29.95 blue ray and HD DVD is a crime. That alone should be a crime.

I've read the post before about the bigger disk. And we don't need the bigger disk. I watch movies and don't care for interactive add on crap and definatly don't care about more language converting.. So you can fan boy the future I need the present. 10 extra gigs of future crap means nothing.

The convo thing BD can do it too, the price is pretty high, but all new technology is expensive. If you shop around you can find tittle under 20 bucks for BD, not sure about HDDVD since i dont shop for it.
And the who the hell are you to decide what capacity should be at? More is always better no matter how you look at it.

Since you want to make and argument out of this, BD has more support than HDDVD, meaning more content, and that my friend is what the comsumer will choose. Good luck to whatever format wins, i made my choice good luck with yours.

Holographic disk are coming so fast. With record breaking write/read speeds. blue and hddvd wont last more than 5 years.

The similarity is that single layer holds enough for the actual movie and Dual holds that extra language and other crap.

HD-DVD uses the same disk but uses a different laser. Blu ray uses a different and much more expensive disk.

Get a brain dude and answer the question.

Here's a news flash loser, they didn't get stuck between. Dual layer was out for over a year prior to HD-DVD and Blu-ray hit the market.

People want big hard drives but not at a premium price. I mean you take up for this guy who runs and hide and you add nothing.

People tend to purchase the most tech for the least. As an example people will choose 4 300 gig 92 dollar drive over getting a 750 1 terabyte drive.
