Los Angeles (CA) - When gamers first saw the Wii Remote in action two years ago, it was almost universally referred to as a light saber-esque controller.  That metaphor will soon become a reality.

At a summit in Los Angeles to discuss the relationship between movies and games, LucasArts president Jim Ward said, "Internally we have already played a lightsaber game on the Wii. It’s a lot of fun, and we’ll get there."

Answering a question about a Wii light saber game, Ward continued to say, "We’re all over that.  There’ll be some stuff out this Fall - it’s going to be a lot of fun."

Already scheduled for release in November is Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, a multi-platform title that will include the Wii.  A company-released fact sheet says the Wii version will include "motion-sensitive inputs give you exciting new ways to control your LEGO Star Wars characters."

Ward's comments imply that there will be additional Star Wars games for the Wii, though, and it's possible there could be an exclusive heading to the Nintendo platform.  Much is left to speculation, and hopefully some questions will be answered at next month's E3 event.

Usage of the Wii remote as a lightsaber does not endow one with the powers of the Force. Attempting to elicit sex with the wave of a hand will only result in possible injury to the player. Nor will player have the ability to summon Force Lightning on those tailgating them in traffic. Finally, Nintendo accepts no responsibility for players who attempt to throw their "lightsaber" at an enemy and call it back to them, resulting in a hole in the players television set. ;)

LOL, that's some funny stuff. Seriously, though , using the Wii remote as a lightsaber sounds seriously cool... no more pre-programmed hacking moves.

If they made a FPS/bushido blade type Star Wars game for the Wii I would buy it tomorrow! Of course, if they don't I'll just buy it later this year...

That really sounds cool! A doubt, as I'm non-Wii owner, remains: may I ask how smartly behave actually available "blade" games? I mean, it's not trivial to program the game to manage the 3D virtal blade in the 3D game, I would be disapponted if the game AI would approximate the controller's movements to a few basic move to render on the screen. What can Wii owners say about the accurancy of controller movement's rendering in available games? Thanks in advance!

I haven't played the one Wii game that has swordplay, dog, but from playing Wii Sports, where you have batting practice, it can be VERY accurate. When you give the controller some slight swinging, the bat on-screen moves very much in-synch. And when you swing the controller, hear the sound of the bat hitting the ball from the controller itself, combined with a bit of a physical jolt as force feedback...very immersive. Lots of fun. The only problem with the immersiveness is when there are collisions. There's no way for the controller to stop you from moving the controller beyond a certain arc, even though you hit (for example) another light sabre blade.
