you screwed up big time with the PS3 the lessons of the PS2 were ignored, programers constantly complaining about how difficult the system was to program for, and what do they do make the problem even worse, blue ray, a host of processors that make it diffifult to program for because they do not work in harmony as one would expect they fight over resources, HD gaming a generation ahead of what it should be, HD is up and comming it is not current, it is all about connectivity, the internet online gaming, and sony you have screwed up big time.

I'll believe it when we actually start seeing it Sony...(cue the mobs of Sony loyalists to defend how good a value the system was...)

I know people love to hate things, it seems that Sony is the thing to hate right now. I'm not loyal to any company but I don't blindly hate any of them either. (I don't have, nor plan at this time to get any of the new consoles)

Making the PS3 more competative is good for people playing any one of the consoles because it keeps up competition. Even if it is a shotgun approach and we only see 5% of the games as good that is still a decent number. Its not like any of the other systems have more then a handfull of games that most gamers are highly anticipating either.

HD is a little ahead of its time. For the 360 1920 x 1200 has a lot of jaggies and I hate jaggies. The only thing the PS3 is good for is for a blue ray player. The only problem is that there is one cheaper blue ray player so now you don't need the PS3.

I have both the 360 and PS3 yet I still prefer my 1920 x 1200 maxed setting games to both of them. No Jaggies,high framerates and keyboard and mouse is where its at anyway.

360 is pretty much in the same boat as the PS3 if you think about it. For being 2 years old the 360 is still close to the same price point it debuted at AND it still only offers a couple of games that are truly worth buying. The PS3 is still without any great/groundbreaking games, with many expected games being delayed. But, thanks to the firmware updates the PS3 is (even at the current place and time) truly a sweet piece of kit. It can now serve as a home Media Server, it can upscale regular DVD's to 1080p and in North America it offers full backwards compatibility to PS1 and PS2 games. Does the 360 offer any of this? and what's the price difference between the two? especially the Elite?

The 360 does upscale DVDs, and if you have the 360 Elite, yes it upscales them to 1080p. I haven't ever used this feature but doesn't the 360 also play xbox games?

I have both all 3 new systems. By far, the one I play games on least is the PS3. Power has nothing to do with it, it's all in the games. It always has been and always will be. The Wii, hands down, is more fun to play than the other 2 systems; especially if you're looking to draw in friends that aren't gamers. That's beside the point, Sony's lack of software is apparent and appalling, and no amount of smoke blown up our ass from Sony's CEO changes that.

I think the ps3 rocks. It has power and i think sony knows its going to be useful in a few years. The 360 has a lot of power too (remember now folks, the ps3 and the 360 are like high end cars eg viper and ferarri, there not for everyone so stop complaining and go buy a wii)

Well, a VGA connection will allow DVD's to be upscaled to 1080p on the 360, but who do you know that uses VGA for their 360?

Anyways here's the specs on the Component connection which I can bet 90% of all HDTV owners use.

DVD - Upscaled to 480p maximum, limited by CSS
Games - 720p games upscaled to 1080p, also supports native-1080p games in the future

I find your statements about the Wii very false. As per stated by a hardware comparison on www.wiili.org/index/Gamecube-wii-hardware the Gamecube had a PowerPC processor running at 486MHz while the Wii is running IBM's 'Broadway' processor at 729MHz. Even the Graphics are running faster with more memory for the system as well. Gc-162MHz video, and Wii- 243MHz video. The Wii is a more powerful machine in all respects from the Gamecube. I don't understand how you could come up with the processor being slower when it is approximately 1.5 times more powerful speed wize. Since we cannot be sure of the differences in the architecture of the chips, one could guess that since the machine can play all Gamecube games as well as Wii games, that the processor architecture is compatible and running at least as fast as the gamecube did. If anyone else can find a correlating site for the information I found, please do so, I cannot get to various sites due our firewall here at work.

Why all the hate? Because PS2 was developed with the primary philosophy of creating great games that people would love. But PS3 was developed primarily to take advantage of the consumer.

For the PS3, Sony took it for granted that their fans would be loyal no matter what. And they took advantage of that loyalty by trying to force on us a system that no one wanted. They focused on creating a multimedia center and trying to win the DVD format war, in order to get more of our money.

Of course all corporations want to get money. But for the PS2 the profits were a by-product of fun exclusive games on a great system. With the PS3 they didn't bother making any great games, because they assumed they could convince us to like whatever they shoved down our throats.

Well,I will start by saying that I do not own a PS3 or XBOX Elite YET!!!..Am I a Sony fanboy yes when it comes to LCD's..I do own 53" XBR3 Full 1080p, I have a Blu-ray (samsung 1200), I have an HD player (Toshiba XA-2), so what ever system that I purchase would be exclusive to GAMING, all other features would take a secondary role. So when it comes to gaming the Elite has the upper hand prevoius "Exclusive " titles to PS2-3 are getting ported to the Elite..Example Grand Theft Auto on the Elite....but will you ever see Halo on PS3 NO!!!..As for gaming I still think nothing is better then a keyboard an a mouse for a first person shooter..So for gaming nothing beats X6800 or Q6800, with an Nvidia 8800 DTX10 card series card is still my personal favorite, As they are VERY formidable an can rip through any next gen game "Crysis, Allan Wake" an many others to come I am a PC gamer. So right now I'm leaning towards the Elite just because of the Titles that are out an are coming out. Oh one more thing the PS3 would look sweet in my HT, because of the nice shinny black..

I think the Blue Ray support is great on PS3 and will be the deciding factor for the future of HD videos.

I have a 360 and I love the games (especially forza) but I cannot get the blerry thing to work with DivX etc, (TVersity sux) does the PS3 work with divx etc? Microsoft tries to force its users to use the useless windows media compression only for videos, and I dont understand why they even let mp3 support slip in. How does that fit in with their monopoly.

By the PS3 isn't backwards compatible. Most games give some kind of problem and even platinum games break all the time from what I have seen.

Backwards compatibility - the truth - it sucks on both, the xb360 can only play certain titles and in aus and the EU the backwards compatibility is removed all together.

download a program called transcode it converts vidoes in realtime and easy to use, just select the file press x for options select play with then transcode and viola working!

I have a PS2 because I believe it is the best console from that generation; I have a Wii because it appeared to be the most promising console from this generation. I hate Windows operating systems, but I use them more than anything else because I'm a gamer at heart.

And yes, I've used Linux too. I love it for its customizability/freeness, and I know someone's going to say "but Nate, you can GAME on Linux. Just shut up. Linux is great, and I know you can game on it, but I'd rather spend more time playing the game than trying to configure it and troubleshoot.

BUT, being an owner of both I would have to say the 360 has been the better value thus far. I think they are both pretty equal to play and I enjoy them both but the 360 I just enjoy more for some reason. I plan to sell my PS3 soon and get another 360 so I can network them. If only the PS3 didn't cost so much and had more games it might be a better system. I guess in time we will see but for right now I honestly think the 360 is where it's at...

Yeah too bad there are only like 10 games a year that come out for PC now, go to the store and the PC gaming section is in the back corner next to the appliances lol.

1) Microsoft is pushing HD-DVD just as much as Sony is pushing BRD.

2) Sony didn't take advantage of its fans. It tried to be innovative and release a true next gen console, not just an improvement on older ones. Microsoft is the one that seems to more interested in profits alone. They come out with their system, then an external HD-DVD player (bringing the price equal to that of a PS3). Now they have an elite!!? give me a break, at least Sony was nice enough to release a finished package.

3) Please don't compare a QXxxxx and 8800 to consoles. I could buy all 3 consoles for the price of those two...

I have been reading these comments for a long time now. And I dont understand how people can have such a hate a gaming machine. They are just machines people. From what I have seen the 360, the PS3 and the Wii are all fantastic gaming machines. I would love to have any one of them. PS3 looks, to be the most powerful. The Wii is awesome the games really immerse you in play. And the 360 has some sweet games and the developers seem to be on point with recent releases.
So explain to me the hate for machines... they all are expensive wastes of money, but we keep buying them so they will keep making them.

Actuly the Australian and EU version just dont have hardware backwards compatability, but relies on software. It still sucks though, some games work othter games only works if the game disc has the correct version number. (yes, there difrent version of the exact same game.) But Sony does expand the list of compatible PS2 games with every firmware update.

The PS2 made tons of wild promises, however Sony had all the devs on board with the PS2 because of the crazy success of the PS1. They went cheap with the PS2's VRAM and in a few other areas which is how the Gamecube and the Xbox easily looked better.

What kept the PS2 popular was not the graphics necessarily but the boatload of games (lots of games does not equal good games). If it wasn't because of MS's competition the PS3 wouldn't have come for another 2-3 years.

So competition is good, that's one reason not to knock on MS for starters. Thanks to MS ... Sony is trying its best to be innovative.. unfortunately they decided to use the PS3 to promote their own developed media (like Sony always tries to do.. Hello minidisc). Instead of giving people option they want to try to force people into the more expensive option (the Blu-Ray) ... so they can make more money.

For $700 you can get a 360 and a Wii, instead of paying $600 for just 1 PS3. Personally I think the 360 has it right when it comes to online fun, and that adds re-playability and a new dimension to every game. The Wii is open for all kinds of people, even non-gamers, its still not as fun as the 360 can be at its peak or as useful. For example, I use my 360 to stream videos A LOT... which is something the Wii doesn't do, and playing against friends? Well only the 360 does that really well (although I think Sony will fix their online soon enough who knows).

As a gamer it's not my job to pick a company, but pick the most "fun" system. I see no reason to be "loyal" to Microsoft or Sony if their system sucks. If their system is giving me tons of fun for the money I paid then I'm happy. I don't understand the close-minded individuals that are brand-loyal even if they don't deserve it... and I'm sorry but right now the PS3 doesn't deserve purchases. It just does not. The graphics on the 360 are almost the same and in some cases BETTER than the PS3 (I couldn't believe it myself) because developers are having a hard time with the unit.

Sony has all but lost Ubisoft, and Namco.. for crying out loud they've lost the Ace Combat 6 series and Devil May Cry 4 to the 360. That speaks volumes, why would I pay $600 to play a game that I could pay $400 AND get to play with my friends online??!

The only advantage the PS3 has is its Blu-ray drive, which MS has options for, HD-DVD add on or download HD movies from their marketplace which is just as nice. But we're talking about FUN here.. no one here wanted to buy an expensive DVD player we wanted a good game console, and right now the Wii/360 combo in your home is the best bet for a wide range of gaming and media experiences.. not the PS3. It's as SIMPLE as that, there's not 2-ways about it.

High End PC, and 360 work well too, or PC/Wii/360.. all those IMO are justified purchases (especially if the PC/360 gaming interoperability keeps expanding).

Just buy yourself a pc and you can have any game u want. a pc is upgradable and you can plug ina controller if u need it. blue ray players are like 400 bucks for pcs.

What it comes down to is that it does not matter what the market of products is, be it game systems or cars. People have the need to argue and defend what they feel is better. Similar to sports teams look at all the global violence sports causes especially soccer in the third world nations.

Remember the shooting and other side shows at the launch of the PS3 and XBox 360? I camped out at Best Buy 3 days in the freezing cold and you should of seen all the news channels coming out and people wanting to pay people for theres. Although I sold it after playing it I think the PS3 is a solid platform with tons of potential. I also like the 360 and every other system there game systems not countries fighting!

I own a PS3...*sigh*...I love tiger woods and own Oblivion and Resistance. I love all 3 titles but now only pick up the controller once every week. I havnt figured out if its the replay value yet with these titles or if its the love for a mouse and keyboard. 600 dollars short now of having the $2,500 i have been trying to save up to build a great gamin pc, I find myself wondering why when I already have a "Next-Gen" console. I'm not firing on any console or company. But PS3 has the potential to become another RAMBUS (remember the RAM came out along with P4). The standard of PS3 is way higher than what it needs for today's games the price is supreme. With the glow of today's technology, if Wii or Xbox360 comes out a higher standard console with lower price in the future. It will easily kill off PS3.

The Xbox 360 has:

1. Xbox Live - Even if the PS3 had better looking games, I would still play my 360 simply because Sony's internet capability sucks. Live gives me full access to friends, what games they're on, even what level their playing, private chats, and a shit ton of downloadable content.

2. Options - Xbox 360 gives people options, whereas Sony forces people to buy the full enchilada. If you dont have a full HD entertainment station, thats cool, and if you do, you can go buy all the HD-DVD drives and cables seperatly. But sony forces people to buy their system with all the HD goodies that most people dont need because they dont have HD. Also, if Blu-ray doesnt win the HD war, then Sony is really screwed. If Blu-Ray does win, then Microsft can simply make a Blu-Ray drive for the 360 you can buy seperatly like the HD-Disc one.

3. Easier to program for - Developers in the long run spend more time and money actually developing the game rather than trying to figure out how to work the system, like the PS3.

In the end, the Xbox 360 is more friendly towards its buyers and its developers, thus the 360 has acquired the better games, which is what people should really focus on when buy a next gen console: which has the games you really want to play? The answer, the Xbox 360.

All, I own both a PS3 and a new Xbox 360 Elite (Yes I saved for a looonnng time). I'm Micro$oft on everything but Pound for Pound the PS3 kicks the Elite's arse!

I'm not a Sony fanboy - the PS3 is a solid state of the art system. Below is how they compare in my experience:

1. The PS3 is WAY quieter almost silent - The 360 sounds like a small prop plane

2. The controllers on the PS3 are feather light compared to the bricks on the 360

3. The controllers on the PS3 use rechargable batteries that LAST

4. Xbox live kicks Sony's online solution's arse!

5. There are tons more games for the 360 than for the PS3!

6. I can watch Blu-Ray movies on my PS3!!!

point one: companies care about you.

The companies(Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo) do care about you and want you to like their console and games. They want to make money and the way to make money is to make your customer happy so they might continue to support you and buy future products that(you hope) they will like. I know this first point seems far fetched and what do I know about this stuff anyway? (of course they want you to buy games they don't care about the consoles as much because they make little to negetive profit off of them)

It is an argument that can't be won other people have preferences different than your's. People look for different things when playing a game. There are some games for PC only that I like for and there are some a certain console that I like. Some people will find that more of the games they like are on consoles only and some will find that most of their favorite games are on the PC. It depends on what you expect form a game that counts. Im pro blu-ray and pro PS3 for a number of reasons that I've mentioned in the past.

But I hate the way Stringer but the numbers of games together, it is very mis leading.

I have no doubt that pushing blu-ray movies and winning the format war is the biggest reason that sony put a blu-ray drive in PS3.

That said I think a secondary reason was that it would be cool to have games released on blu ray discs.

Lets face it, the better the audio and graffics the bigger the file size. One pattern if you look at the first every games to now, is that the file size of games keeps getting bigger and bigger.

So as games get bigger and bigger, poor 360 owners will have to keep switching discs over as games get too big to fit on a DVD.

The time for this may not be now, but think about 2 years from now, let alone the 6 years these consoles are meant to last for.

What mike said was very correct. Noone is forcing anything on anyone, it is YOU who's making the choice. Personally I think that people are just impatient, you have to have it NOW. What's wrong with waiting a little while and see how it turns out, the price goes down a little, more games become available.

Also on a very personal note, I'd get the PS3 because of Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid series. To me the rest of the games are just side dishes, if they're good then I'm very happy, if they're not then hey... it happens. Again, personal preference. I'd buy the PS3 because I CAN afford it and have the extra cash to burn.

But the majority of games that I like are either on the PC or played best on PCs. Like strategy games (C&C3, Total War, Starcraft, Warcraft, etc.) and FPS (Quake, Unreal, CS, Battlefield) where keyboards and mouse dominates.

In short, I second what mike said, "Noone is forcing you" so stop trying to impose your ideals on others. Want to buy a Cus shirt?

I would gladly pay extra cash to buy the PS3 as i can afford it. The xbox 360 here cost SGD$660 while the PS3 is SGD$799(Im in one of those countries where the PS3 sells below the US price of $599 if currency is factor in(SGD$799=US$523). But the problem is the PS3 games here are more expensive than the xbox 360 games. A typical xbox 360 game cost around $69.90 while a PS3 game cost around $99(Probably due to the fact that PS3 games are in Blu-Ray format) and thats what turning me off from buying a PS3. I may then consider the xbox 360 due to the fact that the games here are cheaper.

Btw,regarding those who said that PC gaming still owns, im one of those PC gamer who have decided to move to console gaming this year as PC gaming is simply too expensive. Let just hope Microsoft's "Games for Windows" campaign will help make windows a more viable platform for gaming(And hopefully not a marketing ploy to force more people to buy vista).It will be great to see that one day PC Games have their own stand in those game shops just like the other console games instead of being tuck away in a corner.

I'm not a fanboy. I lean towards the Playstation series for favorite consoles. Loved the PS when it came out, loved the PS2 even more. Still have both. Still play the PS2. Sony had great innovative ideas with the PS2 and good graphics for when it came out.

The PS3 is a piece of junk. The PS2 was expensive when it came out at a third the price of the PS3. In all honesty there are 3 kinds of people that buy a PS3 at this point.

- And finally the person who has plenty of cash to spend.


600 USD is way too expensive for a game console. 'Oh but it does more' i hear you say. So what? You are buying it to play games. It's a second rate media center. It is first and foremost supposed to be a game console. Anything extra is gravy, unless you have to pay 400 bucks for it.

Sony messed up. They messed up hard. They could have knocked the 360 out of the water and competed very well with the Wii. Instead they are dead last. More people are buying the Atari with the 40 games built into it more than PS3s.

The only reason the Xbox sold anything is because of all the 'gamers' that only started on the Xbox with Halo. They got the Xbox players to buy it again. Which is sad because half the people that bought an Xbox got it for their kids who were in to the 'new fad'.

The only console worth the money right now is the Nintendo Wii sadly. I've played on Nintendo since the original console came out. The games were fun but I never had the 'best time' on them.

Same story with the Wii. It's fun, but at the same time a pain in the ass. I find myself using the Gamecube controllers in half the games instead of the wiimote.

I miss my Playstation. Coupled with all the other blunders Sony has been running into latley its no wonder that people are ragging on them.

What exactly are you smoking that you think that 50 Gigs of storage will ever be required this console generation? I have yet to see any PC GAMES that necessitate more than 1 DVD, let alone console games, and PC games often ship with level editors and other utilities. If Oblivion fit on one DVD, odds are good that at most you'll need two DVDs... RE: 4 shipped on two discs and I didn't hear anyone bitching about it.

All of them. They all have odd plots that dont quite fit together, they don't make shotters or rts games, any the last boss is always gay. By gay i mean flaming queen. The game every one loves is FF 12 or 13, what ever they are on. The game play has not changed in a big way in years. attack, fira, cure , ect. The plot is weak unless your all about being emo. And worst of all the gfx have made the game worse. Be fore i was fighting a 2d block man that i assumed as a bad ass, now with good gfx i see he was wearing lace, had nipple rings, was wearing a crown, and hitting on me. All jap games suck. RE 4 sucked, mettal gear sucks, and all the fighers in there fighting games are stupid shit like magic panda dj's.

Capcom raped me and im not going to take it any more. I will never buy another jap game again. This post has nothing to do with the story but I just wanted to say im mad as hell and im not going to take it anymore. First of all, I'm mainly a PC gamer and I'm still giving PS3 half a year for conditions to improve itself.

Secondly, you guys do know that these console generations is somewhere around 5 years. I bet in another year or two, when the PS3's technology matures and we all look at the 360 like we're looking at the PS1 now, outdated. I think it's at their mid-life that you can really compare it, when software and game developers have got the hang of it and can properly utilize its full potential. Imagine blu-ray or 1080p gaming.

By then, I'll be happy that I got my Sharp LC-32GP1U as a monitor for my PC. Full 1080p.

What next? New Xbox in 2 years? Maybe then they'll be selling high-end components at premium prices at a loss. Sounds familiar doesn't it.

It's been proven that on most of these PS3 bashing posts are from Microsoft employees or people getting paid from them to post this garbage . I own an Xbox and not only do they not make games for it anymore but when I bought it, it cost me over $500 for the package deal. I only ended up playing halo(1&2) and Ninja Gaiden on it and after that it collected dust. How much does the Xbox controller look like the Dreamcast controller and for that much, how about the whole system. IMO Sega really rules with originality and fun factor! I'm surprised Microsoft didn't put the little screen in there controller lol! If I can find some crack head selling a 360 dirt cheap I will buy it just for Halo 3 but otherwise I am so happy I didn't get and Xbox 360 when it came out because no matter how much you folks won't admit it you have to be upset about the release of the Elite. This definitely showed Microsoft knew they released some BS. Come on folks! that should be enough proof alone. Also look at the Zune and the Ipod... Unbelievable! I'm just waiting now for Microsoft to release their ZunePhone (just a prediction). I could go on and on but I won't. You can bash the PS3 as much as you want once it's been out for the same period of time that the Xbox 360 has and they still don't have any good games. But if Sony can pull this off and release some great games in this short period of time this will be one of the most remarkable feats in video game history IMO! But common sense should tell you folks that you shouldn't compare a new system to one thats been out for over two years. Yeah everybody, lets shut down Sony so Microsoft corners yet another market and then starts producing crap (vista) that nobody has a choice but to buy. GO SONY AND APPLE! I'll support Microsoft when they get some originality back. And I have nothing really to say to all the Nintendo fans but go jump off a mushroom and make sure you holla WIIII on the way down. With development times and costs for the PS3 longer and higher than any other console it seems unlikely that many of these games will be good, nor will any of them fully utilize that cell processor people paid so much for. In response to one of the top comments: no, if 5% of the games are good that is not good. Learn from Bungie where quality is paramount. Even Halo haters can recognize the workmanship that goes into the Halo games.

Sony can send that blue ray lame POS directly to the Hiroshima landfill. This will mirror Atari's landfill in New Mexico when they had to send tons and tons of their media to LANDFILL because of the great Video Game Crash. Which meant that the CONTENT AND TECHNOLOGY SUCKED and had NO BUYERS.. Sony will have to learn this lesson the hard way.

As for compatibility does anyone know how hard it is to make this work ? you basically have to recreate the original machine in hardware or software and it never works perfectly (PS1 games on PS2 or example)

I really think that in a years time the PS3's extra horse power will start to win the day has anyone seen the 2nd life style online world Sony is releasing for the PS3 ? its free with real time shadows and lighting the XB360 will begin to shudder once programmers get a handle on the PS3's hardware.
I don't own either i use PC's as i can network my home with them have a real media center on each (with TV) games office/internet/photoshop etc.
a cheapish PC has alot more to offer most but if i had the chance i might go for an XB360 simply because as well as games it can act as a MCE extender.

you wanna see quality, go play some of the metal gear solid titles, watch as the hair waves incredibly naturally, the plasmas break as u wuld expect when shooting one.hiding bodies in lockers, aiming your gun at thier crotch so they give up items...halo: shoot, drive, drive and shoot,fly and shoot, shoot....wow amazing game!ive got both a ps3 and a 360 and i like both but am still swayed towards the ps3.i like online gaming to be free,i like being able to play bluray movies and i like not having to replace my batteries.games so far arent shining on the ps3 but its been out half the time and i feel that the xbox is only going to last soo long as said many times before in this thread the hardware just aint gunna cut it in another year or so.

I don't know why everyone hates the ps3 I plan on buying one and I'm satisfied with the system. It may be a lot more expensive than a xbox 360 but I don't see why people buy a system for only FPS'. Bottom line ps3 has the best hardware, it has a blue ray player it may not be the cheapest anymore but I'd rather pay 100 dollars more for a blue ray player that is also a really good video game system with great games.

As monopoly era in console market is over today, guess what developers are chosing and will chose to be paid to program...

...that blockbuster is exclusively supporting blu-ray in stores? they still have some online titles for hd-dvd, but only blu-ray will be store stocked. also, only universal is exclusively supporting hd-dvd. blu-ray has 4(20th century fox, disney, mgm, and sony pictures)

and @ all the ppl who said "ps3 is harder to program on"...ps3 is EASIER to program on than the ps2. it's even easier now thanks to programming tools released by sony so that lazy developers don't have to figure out how to do basic operations using the SPU's. wait for ps3's first party games to hit. you'll be amazed the things you can get done if you stop complaining about having to learn a new way of programming, and actually learn a new way of programming

Why? Simple, it has a fairly sizeable collection of good games, and it has them NOW.

What does Sony have? a $600 price tag and ONE decent game? Seriously, if there is really going to be 380 games, how many of them are actually going to be good?

Not only that, but we've seen these kinds of promises in the past, and most of 'em have fallen through.

Say what you will about the PS3 being an awesome value what with all the extra media center features it has, but I don't give a flying f@ck about any of that.

All I'm concerned about is if it plays good games, and the Wii and 360 destroy the PS3 in that field.

I don't honestly believe that there are enough hardcore gamers out there to carry the PS3, because the casual gamers will have the Wii or an older system, the more mainstream will have the 360, leaving only those that can afford high-end media systems to buy a PS3.

It won't be enough unless Sony actually manages to deliver on this promise, and the signs don't look good for them at this point.

Every system has their pros and cons. As a former PS2-er and current 360er, I have to say I am kind of dissapointed at all three systems, really...

They all have something, but are missing somethnig as well.

And as for computers? You can put together a decent one now for about $800 that will perform about as well in most things as the PS3 and enable you to do much more than game.

So lets start.

Wii.
Pros: Fun system. Relatively cheap. Good party system.
Cons: Not that much of an advancement in hardware. Not enough software available.

360
Pros: Best game selection so far, although still lacking many co-op (in one room) games. Decent price, decent power. VGA works nicely (yes, some of us use VGA!!!)
Cons: RROD, Live, paying for every little thing on it, cheap manufacture, lousy cooling, "kiddie" look.

PS3:
Pros: Great graphics, free online interface, integrated High Def (blu ray) video.
Cons: PRICE!!, lack of finished quality games, Awkyard size, kiddie look (for $600 you would think they would come out with noe model that would look at home in your AV rack!!), SONY exclusivity (Memory cards, etc). cont......

I think the thing that all these guys lack is any kind of interoperability. They somehow do not want you to connect this sucker to your computer. I know they do not want hacks, but I would liek tio stream my video and MP3 to the machine without having to install crap like "Zune" on my machine!

Also, you spend $300-$600 on a console, why the HELL don't they make it look like a quality receiver? At least ONE model should be available for that!

And this proprietary stuff. Only using their memory cards, not using a standard froigging set of AV jacks in the back (having to buy an HDMI cable from them, etc etc). BS!!! Stop trying to make money off of everything ELSE you can get for the system!!!

The thing that is bothering me now is Live. For a gamme that I pay $10 more for as compared to the PC version (say Rainbow 6 LV), why the hell do I have to pay another $10 for 5 silly maps and 2 gameplay types? Why haven't they made user maps available? Why have they not come out with a KB and mouse that is anywhere near the real deal?


If these guys would get real and realize that kiddies are not the only ones buying this stuff now, we may get a system that is more geared to all ages rather than 9-18.

I have been a gamer since 1982, and have owned several systems starting with an Atari 2600 to mu currently used Xbox 360.
One of the greatest gaming rigs of the mid 90s that I owned was the PS1. It was powerful, compact, had great games, and was fun.
Then came the ps2 advertising, full of huge possibilities, incredible screen shots and videos that showed off amazing next generation capabilities. However, this system shipped with a pathetic line-up of terrible titles and most of their next-gen screens were only FMV! The only reason they sold high numbers was that the PS2 was the cheapest DVD player in Japan( crappy on though)!
Sony continues their B.S tradition with their Blue Laser playing PS3! Amazingly, people still don't see when the wool is pulled over their eyes...how much do you think a blue laser player will cost in 2 years...less than 200 dollars I'll bet! Two years ago Sony stated that the PS3is 3 times as powerful as the Xbox 360(It probably is more powerful, but not that much)...when just a few years ago, they stated that graphics do not make a game, but gameplay and creativity...Sony pushed this belief when the Xbox1 was released, since it was almost double the horse-power of a PS2...
I must admit that their PS3 looks like a nice piece of hardware, loyal software developers will put out some great games in time; nevertheless, I will not spend a penny on a system that is pushed by a company who sells product through lies and BS...I think Sony took lessons from Trip Hawkins who launched the 3D0 back '94. However, he only sucessfully sucked in 1.7 million people into buying his over-hyped system, not over 130 million!

Blueray discs hold 50gbs of information. Imagine how much Blueray content can be made for realy HD games?

well if u think about it pc gaming is also very expensive. A good rig will cost u at least a grand and the high end rigs are 2-3 grand. plus the damn technology curve going at the rate it is, new and better parts come out ever 3-6 months. damn, i dunnoe about u but 600 bucks for a ps3 compared to buying a god damn nivida 8800gtx for 700$, which in like 2 months will be obsolete and be replaced with a 800 dollar 9000 whatever sounds like it sucks. not to mention all the other parts. a blu ray burner is like 800 bucks ps3 has one. another .

It really comes down to PS3 not being worth $600 to the -average- gamer. In fact, any console $500 right now is not worth it to the -average- gamer, yes, even the 360 Elite. Same thing when the PSP debuted with it's enormous price tag, and to do anything on it, you had to buy expensive special flash media cards to use all the special features (at the time, anyway, they're dirt cheap now).

But... as many analysts say, the PS3 could have a good run in the long game. Eventually the parts to put together the PS3 will get cheaper, and they'll drop the price down to maybe $400. By that time, it will have a large library of games, a fully constructed online community, and it will still be a media center combo.

The big question that is left to be answered though, will this long wait to that end reap in enough profits to justify the billions invested in the PS3?

That will only be answered in time.

Sony is now desperate, thus, their rushing as many games as possible to flood the market. And we all know what happens to games that are rushed out onto the market like all the movie games: Transformers The Game, Spider Man 3, etc. They all suck. All they are going to do is destroy the only good franchises they got by rushing them out too fast and thus delivering a bad game.

First off, I am a HD-DVD fan because Blu-Ray sucks Why? Simple: Sony NEVER DELIVERS ON THEIR PROMISES. Right now, Blu-Ray discs and HD-DVD discs have the exact same storage and speed. Sony promised that Blu-ray would have twice the storage and speed, but, like everything else, they under deliver.

However, right now, I believe that both HD and Blu-Ray have failed simply because everybody is waiting for one side to win. Nobody wants to spend a thousand dollars on a HD or Blu-ray player and dvds if there is a possibility that one format will fail. Right now the only thing that is selling the PS3 and Xbox 360 are their games, not their "High Definition Entertainment Center Power Box Features of the Future." The Format War is a losing draw for both sides, its a small market with little gain for anybody, despite the fact that it is the future of media, and nobody wants to waste money on something that wont gain them profit. Thus, no real corporate studios are really pushing that hard other than Sony, Toshiba, and Microsoft.

The fact that Blockbuster siding with Blu-Ray is not a winning point for Sony, but rather a huge mistake for Blockbuster. Net Flix is already kicking their ass, and choosing a side in a poor market is a really bad choice. My guess is that Sony offered them a good chunk of change for their allegiance. Instead, it will end up hurting them because the only people who own HD Format Players are people who own a Xbox 360 and PS3, and Right now, there are more 360s.

Me, personally, I dont care that much. Its a waste of money at this point because it is a dying market and a forgotten war. I'll wait and see what happens, but right now, my good ole' DVD collection is good enough for me.

out of 380 PS3 games will be re-masterized games from precedent consoles, sequels from other games which won't be as good and if only 1 out of 10 games is a good one, sony will lose credits because by the time you'll find them, you won't want to play anymore.

well you are wrong about one thing blue ray does hold more but the dvd's are what can hold more they dont have any 32 gig video games the games for 360 are just as big as ps3 games but blue ray will win if anyone does because hd-dvd is backed by six companies that arent also backing blue ray blue ray is backed by 19 companies that arent also backing hd that means blue ray is backed by 13 more companies than hd most of them being movie companies or big electronics episode

I bought the 360 because of its online service. The PS3's is just terrible. The 360 has more games and just more to do with it's online content. I do think the PS3 is a very powerfull system and has potential. The blueray disks alone allow for huge games to be made. But 380 games in a short time. All I can say is I hope they have been developing them for a long time......

TBH all 360 is just a pc but you have to pay extra for it. If i wanted to play a pc i wouldn't have tossed my old alienware out the window. Look at it like MAC vs PC. Ps3=MAC reliable and still fun wail keeping original. PC=360 just all around shit if i want a game console to crash and be shitty i would have keep gaming on a PC.

The PS3 is a fantastic system with many features to satisfy various needs. I have a few things I'd like to say.

1. Everyone who talks about the 360 being greater than the PS3 is mistaken, and this is a place to comment about the 380 new games coming to the PS3, not complain about how your 360 is "better".
2. Everyone insults the Sony games, and they think that they're previous titles that have been remade are awful, well look at Ninja Gaiden: Sigma; that game was old, and it was revamped to temporarily top the charts for the PS3, and all games alike.
3. The price for the console is not ridiculous because there's so much power packed into that machine, and nobody appreciates it. If you want a crappy little game system, go to a pawn shop and buy a NES or something. (Not saying the NES is bad, but it's old, and ancient technology.)
4. There won't be any newest generation systems for a while, and seeing as the PS3 was released last out of the next generation systems, it has the highest growth potential over it's competitors, so everyone who says the other systems are better at the moment, it is because Microsoft has already established their platform, and built on it with a huge market for their games and software alike. But still, the technology level is not as advanced as the PS3, and therefore will be left behind when the time comes for the PS3 to advance in the systems, which very well could happen after this "flood" of new games.

I have the 360, with over 26 games, and i most say that i am very pleased. However, the PS3 is an amazing machine with built in bluray, wifi, and blutooth that you will not get out of the 360. Not to mention the up to date updates that make the machine a newer machine all the time. The PS3 is more advanced in technology. (comment before mine, well said.)
