Cupertino (CA) – Apple today said that iPhone buyers will be able to access Youtube videos via EDGE or Wi-Fi networks.

The content will be accessible via “new Apple-designed application” that will allow the iPhone to stream and play videos. According to Apple, about 10,000 H.264 encoded Youtube videos will be available when the iPhone goes on sale on June 29; the full Youtube video catalog is expected to be accessible this fall.

Apple also announced a software update for its Apple TV, which allows console owners to browse through Youtube content.

To take advantage of Youtube (over EDGE networks), iPhone buyers will have to subscribe to a data plan from AT&T, which will be the only wireless carrier offering the iPhone initially. A plan with web and email access as well as unlimited data transfer volume is currently priced at $20 per month. Voice plans are available from $40 per month.
