Milpitas (CA) - Enthusiast PC maker Targa has upgraded the option list for its Raptor-60 notebook, which can now be equipped with up to three 2.5” hard disks and a Blu-ray drive.

Targa claims that the notebook is the first laptop of its kind to support RAID 5 by installing three 2.5” drives with up to 250 GB capacity each. The company is also offering a Blu-ray drive as an option for the notebook, which has a base price of $2645.

Included in the standard configuration is a 17” display, a Core 2 Duo E6300 CPU, a GeForce Go 7950 chip, 512 MB memory, a 40 GB HDD and a DVD burner. Equipped with a Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor, two GeForce 7950 graphics GPUs, 4 GB memory, 750 GB storage space, a Blu-ray drive, the price quickly jumps into the $7000 range.

That's a deskop replacement!

What do you really need 3x 250GB HDD's in a laptop for? By the time you're booted up, hard drives are all spinning, blu-ray is blu'ing and you move your mouse... it's time to plug in your power adapter. Besides, RAID5 3x 250GB HDD's doesn't equal 750GB. Must be insisting that the RAID controller will do other RAID configs as well.

Battery Life Doesn't Matter

Battery life doesn't matter to those who buy this, it is something that will be plugged in 95% of the time that it is on. I have a laptop that only gets just over an hour of battery life, but it's used for LANs, mush easier to tote to a LAN than my desktop, keyboard, monitor, etc.

Sometimes you want a computer but don't have the space for it in your Tokyo bachlor appartement (that has only one room really). This laptop is great if combined with a fat pipe. You can download all the tv shows from home and watch them when your ready.

it seems the market is ready for portable computers again? People use laptops while in transit, but average laptop use is just to take the thing from home to the workplace and/or venue and plug in power (and LAN, btw) anyway. I have had the idea to do away with the battery altogether, and if possible use the space for a power supply, but people tell me heat will be a problem.
