Culver City (CA) - Electronic Arts's life simulation game is the latest video game to be slated for a theatrical movie, thanks to a new partnership with 20th Century Fox.

Trade magazine Variety reports that the movie will be a live action adventure, with the screenplay writing job going to Brian Lynch.

Fox has not announced any casting possibilities or who the director will be.  Worldwide, The Sims franchise has sold more than 85 million copies, and has appeared on platforms ranging from the PC to mobile phones to in-flight entertainment systems.

The Sims could also be categorized as a game with no set story line, goal, or villain.  It's unsure how this will translate into a movie, with a genre defined by films like Doom, Tomb Raider, and Silent Hill.

"The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it. Given that that's an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling," said Rod Humble, head of The Sims studio.

horrible. You really would rather use the money to make this and just throw it away into a POS film that was doomed before it even reached paper? Is everyone going to have the little diamonds over their heads? Will they walk around like manikins and speak that nonsense language? They'd probably all look like 'Smilin' Bob'.

The Sims has no plot and is just about a family / group of people living in a house. Even if the movie ends up being decent, I can't see how you would even know it was "The Sims" other than the title and the a few references thrown in (not to mention the entire set design based on things in the game). This sounds like a joke to me.

Maybe if it was done with the right twist. Perhaps some people realize that their Sims are actually people somewhere int he world, or on another planet. Or you start seeing your real neighbors show up as NPCs and can control them. Maybe you get sucked into a sims game and have to learn to survive while trying to find a way out. The idea is a little cheesy, and not very original, but it could be done fairly well given enough humor and creativity.

I dun see how it could work... On the other hand, something that initially sounds outlandish could end up being revolutionary, just look at the Wii.
