New York (NY) - Sanyo has announced a new addition to its Xacti line of camcorders, featuring rugged water resistance just in time for beach season.

The six ounce Xact E1 shoots videos in MPEG-4 or H.264 format and can withstand water depth of up to five feet.  Sanyo says the camcorder can stay fully submerged for up to one hour without causing any damage.

As a digital camera, the E1 can shoot still images with six megapixels of resolution, reports PC Magazine.  It also sports a 5x optical zoom and a 2.5 inch LCD display.  Media is stored to memory cards via the camera's SD(HC) slot.

The pool-friendly device will hit store shelves by this time next month and will carry a list price of around $500.
