Intel eliminates lead from 45nm line

Santa Clara (CA) – Intel has announced that it will eliminate lead from its future line of 45 nm processors which include the Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad and Xeon processors.  The company will switch the solder to a mix of tin, silver and copper.

Nasser Grayeli, Intel’s vice president and director of assembly test technology development, says that Intel is taking an “aggressive stance toward environmental sustainability”.

Intel’s says its line of 65nm processors will go lead free in 2008.
